Nokia N900

I phoned Nokia to cancel my pre-order based on the availability of the n900 in the flagship store supposedly from tomorrow.
I didn't cancel in the end as the guy on the phone swore blind that there was no way the flagship store would have any n900's tomorrow.
Left hand not knowing what the right is doing?

Probably. As has been commented, Nokia didn't expect this, they expected a few pre-orders from those who wanted one. They haven't put loads of hype out about it either. MPD website says exclusive availability from late november, which, to me is between the 20th and 30th, so around a week.

Tell me about it! The tweet that the Nokia Flagship store made about it being available tomorrow has been removed. Bloody idiots! I went into the store in my lunchbreak to ask about contracts (Voda/Tmobile available apparently, and they have an exclusive until January) - it will be in the shop tomorrow or the next day.

Tank Girl is echoiing Engadgets report that the N900 has a very dissappointing screen if you're used to capacitive (comments http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/11/16/nokia-n900-quick-hands-on/#comments)... and she is a very fair and obvjective reviewer with a good rep.

From the review I saw TankGrl (its guy) was very positive about the N900, you are being rather selective. (He did mention resistive as being a downside however.). Also Engadget is known not to be the most objective - they are iphone obsessives. Not sure why you keep on posting negative reviews about the device. By the way Im not saying the device is perfect.

Who cares about reviews anyway? Who wants this thing for its functions will look it up for themselves, rather then listening to some person on the net. I still think its a big mistake to put a phone chip into it. Anyway, have fun buying them all guys, if you see one for ~350 or less, give me a shout please ;)

I'm in two minds about this phone - I was really enthusiastic about it when I first heard about it but recently I'm not as keen on it

No MMS, the very narrow keyboard and the dreadful battery life is putting me right off it

I'm choosing between the N900, iPhone and HTC Magic and at the moment I'm probably going to get the iPhone

The poor battery life was apparently the beta software and has been sorted out. If it was bad Ill sell it straightaway personally. The keyboard is quite nice actually, you need to give it a try yourself - I was quite surprised. Also MMS is coming in Dec with a firmware upgrade.

Question about the MMS... can you receive but not send? Or not either?

I know its coming soon just interested, some of us would like to receive dirty pics still!! :)

new review out - encouraging news about battery life...

I finally got a reply back from MPD - it's looking like next week, see below

Dear Customer,

If you do not know already, the N900 has been pushed back again. The latest information from Nokia, is that the handsets have started shipping from Finland and should be on the market (in our possession) for the last week of November.

There have been no dates given. As soon as there is concrete and definite ETA’s then the website will be updated as soon as we know – please refrain from emailing us – the website will have this information on it before our emailing and customer services representatives know.

The large number of orders has also lead to a large number of phone calls and emails – this flux is difficult to deal with especially when we need to give you, the customer, the best service possible. This is one of our efforts just to let you know the status of your order and also to try and make things a little easier for us.

Those of you who have applied for the N900 and have not heard from us need to:

· Use our online tracker to find the status of your order.
· If your status is ‘pending stock’, this literally means we are waiting for the stock, however your application for contract or PAYG has been approved and your order will be filled when the stock is here and ready to be despatched.

Should you need to contact us, please try out our new online chat system where you can ask immediate questions – all the information on the N900 is above.

Many thanks for those who have been patient with us – it is much appreciated – we are looking forward to despatching your order as soon as possible.

Kindest Regards, and for what it is worth an apology if you have found it difficult to get through to us, trust us, we are as anxious as you to send out these phones.

The Web Dept.

Going to cancel my order prob wait for a few months and see how the meamo apps develop, i also expect that come summer there will be another version as such with faster CPU etc.

Does the N900 come with dedicated syncing software for the PC? It's the one thing Android really lacks and it's a big one for me. I just want to be able to plug in my phone for easy backup and syncing of music and pictures :).
