Hey all,

I'm going to be saving to upgrade my machine in the new year, and I was wondering what ya'll thought I should do.

Right now I've got a 20" Alu iMac - 2.4GHz C2D, 4GB RAM, ATI HD2400, 250GB HDD. It's a wonderful bit of kit and one of the most stable and troublefree macs I've had for some time. However, I want to go dual monitor. I know this has a monitor output but it's just no good as whatever monitor I buy won't match this and I want a pair of matching monitors.

I was thinking the other day wether I should go for a base Mac Pro in place of my iMac, or get a Mac Mini 2.66GHz, upgrade the HDD to a 7,200RPM 500GB one and then also treat myself to a 13" Macbook Pro with the money I'd be saving by not buying the Mac Pro.

I'm leaning towards the Mini/MBP combo as I find myself wanting to use the laptop quite a lot and go out quite often so having an MBP would be handy! I do the usual on here - iTunes, Internet, Email, IM and the occasional bit of FCP and Photoshop work.

What do you guys think? I'm not fussed about waiting for apple to release new products - if they do, they do. I'm not about to spend my life waiting lol

27" imac is the one to go for as has been posted.

would be no point in buying an mbp and a mac mini you may aswel just plug the mbp in when its not being taken anywhere.

Any case if you have the cash to spend but dont really need a laptop then the 27" imac is cheap as chips.

As others have said, you'd have to be insane to get the base mac pro today, it's slower in some benchmarks than the cheaper i7 27" iMac.

I strongly suggest you decide what you actually need and then choose something which meets those requirements...
