Car for a very short commute and some fun at the weekends?

I thought about mentioning the Monaro as a wildcard, but i'm not sure my flameproof suit is thick enough. :eek:

Thats not a half bad shout.

Being a vauxhall it gets you a relatively new example

6.0 LS2 V8 engine out of the corvette. And because its the corvette engine, its cast from granite and will go on and on and on, with no issues whatsoever.

Nom Nom Nom

OP will probably hate it however.

Imagine doing the same in a Caterham 7.

In the winter.

Yes but one will hold it's value if looked after and is pure fun.

The other is a very quick saloon which are only of real interest to young, single men and enthusiasts.

The OP seems to be neither.

@Fox and MrLOL

I don't think it is fair to dismiss people comments unless the OP specifically mentions he is not interested and the poster keeps prattling on like a broken record, your opinion is no more valid at this stage than anyone elses even if you seem to have read the opening post better.

It's not ancient for a start. A 14 year old Nissan will be creaky, rattly and feel like a 14 year old Nissan. A 2007 Monaro will not.

its got lots going for it

Vauxhall Servicing Costs
Rarity factor
GM lengthy service intervals and reliability (we all know that american V8s are designed to run for years without proper servicing and run on crap american petrol and be hugely reliable)
Get a nice relatively knew example for your money.

If you can get your head round the typically vauxhall tacky plastics. Something like a Mk 3 MX5 for example, will have much better plastics.

Not got a V8 though. Depends what the OP wants.

I did say apart from age, you would have to really like them to spend 10k+ on one but as they can be had for a lot less the idea in general is not that bad.

Are they less to service than VXRs then?

apparently the Mk3 MX-5 is a very good car. certainly worth a look

Only if you add the Eibach suspension really (standard outside the EU). Otherwise it looks like a cross country car that doesn't handle as sporty as it is meant to. The 3.5 is much better, but is newer and is out of the OP budget.

What's your budget for running costs?

A 987 non-S is going to cost you;

- 2K p.a maintenance (less if on 18inch alloys or lower)
- 215 VED
- Potentially 500 in 3rd party warranty (IMS insurance)
- ? insurance.

Skd.
