Wife's car has just thrown a CEL.

Drives absolutely fine, full power.

Need to say at this point that the car only does 2 miles a day so it's not getting anywhere near warm let alone hot.

Wondering whether bearind in mind it's doing very short runs this would help diagnose the problem - MAF or O2 sensor? Moisture? Dirt?

i've just given it a proper warm up and then a damn good thrashing so we'll see if the CEL is still on in the morning.

Actually it's a 2004 car not 2003, in case that makes any difference, which almost certainly it won't.

It's fuse number six in the Type-R version to reset the ECU. The fuse box under the bonnet.

I had a CEL starting up one morning but the car ran fine although the inital star was stuttery for a moment. I got the AA out who said it was the cam protection sensor. Sadly he reset it so Honda (was still under warranty) could only suggest keep driving and see if it comes back. It never did, and the mechanics said it was probably just a coked up sensor.

I don't know if it's fuse 6 on your engine/model but it migt be with getting the AA or similar to hook it up and see of you have it. I had cover with my 12 month warranty from Honda.

Before you try to clear it, ask your garage for "a diagnosis and an estimate", may be cheap or free to see what it has to say for itself.

Reset ECU and light still on so I'll drop it into Honda and lube up.

Still drives perfect though & it's only done 35k miles.

Can you not pull the code from the ECU like you can on other honda (such as the old civics and preludes etc ) and then look it up yourself ?

I had this happen on my Accord. Idled a bit funny but otherwise drove fine.

Fixed it :)

Same happened on my wife's 1.4 2002 Civic a few years ago after some spirited driving. A disconnection of the battery for 20 mins cleared it and we haven't had any problems since.
