Is there going to be a 5950?

There is no information from ATI about releasing a 5950 for the time being. Taking into consideration that they has been such version for two generations then it is pretty likely that they will release it eventually.

I can't see it happening though since a 5950 will have very similar performance with the 5970. You never know though. The part i am interested in is the 5890 though.

tbh i dont really see the point, the 5970 has the 5850 clocks so it is technically a 5850 CF on 1 board.

Well it's not though is it. You only have to up the clocks a bit to match the 5870, the rest is the same. In fact I think the memory is faster too.

I can see the point in a 5950. It would fill the gap between 5870 and 5970 which, going by the benches, is rather large as is the price gap.

No, there is no confirmed 5950, ATI have denied it's existance several times. The only hint of one existing was pictures of a smaller engineering sample on hardware cannucks with a dual orb cooler.

ATI later revealed this was a very early non-working engineering sample of the 5970, obviously much earlier in its development.

Surely the 5970 has the same shaders of the 5870 although with lower clocks.
yes but just x2..

calling it 5970 will let people think its a single gpu, where if it was called 5870x2 people would know its a dual gpu.

if a game don't use crossfire the 5970 will basicly just be a 5870

I'd love any future dual GPU card to be dual 5770's for about £220. Though I suppose that then steps on the toes of the 5870 which is £100 more :(

What would the 5950 be if it was released, as the 5970 is already at 5850 speeds, so would have to be slower, unless they do full blown 5850's, but then again, still wouldn't be much slower than the 5970, so probably not much point.

The problem here is that the 5770 X2 would run a lot hotter than two 5770s, although it would be good for tri / quad 5770 setups lol.

don't forget the 5850 as 1440 Stream Processing Units and 72 Texture Units .. so a 5950 would have x2 that, 2880 Stream Processing Units and 144 Texture Units, and if that wasn't enough they could lower the clocks little. like the 5970.

Alright so we shall wait a couple of months and see what happens :)

any thoughts on a 5990? if a 5950 would be same performance as 5970, wouldnt a 5990 be a better, eg more memory, bigger memory clock etc and maybe more slots on the back which can support 4 direct monitors instead of 2? just a thought.
