Nokia N900

Going to cancel my order prob wait for a few months and see how the meamo apps develop, i also expect that come summer there will be another version as such with faster CPU etc.

The next version will be capacitive touchscreen with no keyboard, same CPU/screen size. Out apparently in 6 months..

Does the N900 come with dedicated syncing software for the PC? It's the one thing Android really lacks and it's a big one for me. I just want to be able to plug in my phone for easy backup and syncing of music and pictures :).

It uses Ovi Suite like other Nokias do.

keyboard felt fine when I used it - the 3 row layout is a bit annoying and slows things, but nice sized keys and good travel on them. Much faster and more accurate with my big fingers than on iphones

Is that the X6 thing? That looks a very nice phone.

nope, the next Maemo device, there have been some comments on it from people that have seen it.

I thought the n920 pic was a fake. Or am I wrong on that?

yeah it was fake. The specs for maemo 6 have been released, plus someone has seen and commented on the N900 follow up (supposedly in 6 months time).

I too have had this mail, so MPD are delivering from the 3rd and Nokia will be shipping next week. At least we have some dates now, but it will still seem a long wait..

I have gadget lust

This is getting annoying, two more weeks, that will be 6 weeks late really and at the speed technology moves, things like this need to be out there.

Im waiting to hear real opinions of retail units before I buy but I'd rather they delayed release of their flagship product rather than release a bugged peice of crap which would take a month for a firmware update to sort out. You're kind of damned if you do and damned if you dont.

Now you see, this is exactly why this should never have been a phone... Its attracting the wrong kind of audience ¬_¬. You guys sound like little kids who didn't get a toy, geeze. Just go and buy an iphone, and be happy.

How many of you got the previous version? 810? It will be like that, except it should have enough umpf to play dvd quality videos without resizing and browse the net a bit better. That is it, 900 does nothing that 810 does not do, outside these two areas.

Hell you can just use skype for voice calls if you wish with 810, teathered to a proper mobile if you really really want a call on the move (for thoe with o2, just get the web bolt on and go pay as you go for £7.50 a month and use skype). I am strongly suggesting, that those who can't wait, just go and buy something else, you would be just as happy what whatever else you get, like one of those htc or crapphone.

What a crock of ****. It should be a phone because it has generated a huge amount of interest which is ultimately why companies release stuff for. They dont care who they sell it to, all this "attracting the wrong kind of audience" is just pretentious BS.

One of the reasons that this phone has generated so much media coverage is the open OS and the possibilities, I've ordered one and am consumed by gadget lust. People want this phone for the possibilities and because it offers something different
Anyone can go with the herd and buy an Iphone...

Half of this thread is just complaints about delays and how the poster needs a phone RIGHT THIS SECOND or else. What are they thinking, that nokia engineers/sales will read this thread and go "Ok, drop everything, throw all resources into this thing so it gets out there by tomorrow or no pizza"?

And yes I am pretentious, however just don't think that these people will get on with the 900 as much as they think they will. And guess deep down, in my compressed black heart, I just don't want people wasting money (lets face it, its not cheap) on something like N900, regardless of how much I think its the best smartphone out there.

I just get the feeling it will be the same hype as it was over eeepc, like its some sort of saviour come to free us from the grips of microsoft, but few years on you just see more fleabay posts of "never used" eeepc's.

Yes you are pretention... but despite that yes you have a point. The N900 is late, the N900 is lacking compared to other top-tier smartphones, and it's just a stop-gap until Nokias next best thing.

It's not a good purchase imo, it's nerd-hype without the functionality and longevity to back it up.

Whats up with the EEE? Great bit of kit.

Why do you keep on posting negative comments in here - how is it lacking compared to other phones. imo it is the phone to get - HTC HD2 - WiMo - no thanks, Droid, not out - what else touches this phone.
