Wish i was in a Ramen Shop Counter
I basically bought it to do 1 thing, to stream music to my Hifi.

So, this is what i've done so far, I have:-

1 - Installed the CD
2 - Plugged in a cable (1/8 jack) into the back of the Airport Express and then the other end a Stereo jack into the back of my Amp (Marantz 6010KI).
3 - The iMac has asked me to join the Airport Express into my existing home network, which i've done.

But the light on the Airport Express stays flashing Amber :(

And I don't see the option in iTunes to let me choose if i want to send my music to the speakers (in the mac) or to the Airport Express, as stated in the manual.

Anyone know what I am doing wrong?

It either thinks it still needs to be setup or it can't connect to your network. Try using airport utility to set it up manually, it does take a long time to connect mind you, just turned mine on to check the settings and it's still flashing amber.

Weird thing is now that when i try to rescan on my mac in airport utility, it can't see the Express.

Bizarrely I think I just had that problem, connected it via ethernet cable and it had some bizarre ip address listed for the wireless connection, renewed the dhcp lease and it was back to normal, think I'll give it a static ip if it's going to do that.

It's killing me, I have reset it and start from the beginning and still not working. Do I ask it to join my existing network or crest a new one?

join a wireless network and the network details, I left on allow ethernet clients in case of emergency, then should just be a case of enabling airtunes under music.

I keep getting this message after setup.

And then when i start airport utility again i get this message.

For it to see the express, i have to reset the Express with a paper clip.

I'm not an expert Raymond, at the end of the day I just happen to have an airport express that I use for exactly the same purpose so I thought I'd try and help out.

Given that no one else has replied if it still persists in giving you trouble after configuring it via ethernet I would seek help on a more mac specific forum.

The only real problems I have noticed with the express is its inability to join a network with a non broadcast ssid without manual configuration via ethernet and this odd ip address it had today which I am assuming is related to airport utility.

Thanks Sareth. :)

Right, I got it to work, but only if i have the Express plugged into the ethernet cable into the router (not that close to the Hifi so I have a CAT5 cable across the front of my TV at the mo !). But as soon as I unplug the network cable the mac can't see the express.

Well, it DEFINITELY works with the cable plugged in. The iMac can also see the Express when its done a reset so I don't think the Express is faulty as if i can see it then wifi is functioning....and after some thought, the only thing that stop it working is the wireless....and I am thinking it's something to do with the router.....and it hit me...my router security !!!

I have already done the WPA password....but i have Mac Address Filtering turned on !!!

Now I have added the ID into the router...it works !!!!!!!!!

How could something so simple slipped my mind? lol

Thanks all the help you've given me so far, i wouldn't even try the network cable if you didn't suggest it, and you have helped me narrowed it down in the end.

So, cheers ! :)

Hmm I had this very same problem, iirc I bought my hybrid MB roughly the same time as the OP too. I bought a refurb AE back in Sept iirc and had the very same issues with the thing repeatedly flashing on amber for ages. Eventually it just sorted itself out after I removed it from the mains socket a few times.

First time experience with this toy was far from flawless and I wasn't really impressed until I got it reliably working a day after purchase. The iTunes options to choose your speaker outputs will be in the bottom right corner of itunes besides the two genius icons. On my MB I can toggle between the internal speakers and the airport speakers.

Once I had it working (even when wired), i can choose the option to output via the computer or the Express in both iTunes and even in Remote in the iPhone. Now it's flawless ! :)

It is soooo awsome, i mean I used to have to either connect the HiFi using a loonnnnnnnggggggggg cable across the room from the PC to it, or burn and album so i can play it in the CD player. Now, i don't have to do any of that, all I need is the Express :)

When it works, it does work very well yes my only issue is that my main PC is armed with an Auzentech Meridian soundcard...a very high quality card no longer available and here I am using this Macbook to stream podcasts and iTunes singles to my amp, whilst I have all my albums on the main PC played through my soundcard-amp.

Anyway sod that, look at this http://rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/ :D
Now you can use that to stream apps like Spotify to the Express \:D/ I've got to buy that app when I get a moment.
