Well they use Magnums or similar boots in the Police, but they certainly aren't suitable for everyone, they can be slightly heavy, and hard to break in. A standard pair of shoes may be better for a girl.

I have 2 pairs though anyway, and love them. My Classics pair I've had for about years.

I find my magnum classics almost as light as some trainers I've worn and they need little to no breaking in as their quite a soft leather, I've used mine for some massive security shifts and love them
 
also important is the socks,. never under estimate the benefit and comfort from a decent pair of socks.

I'd recommend some thick cushioned walking socks. not the woolly numbers, but the more modern style. Even awesome for day to day office shoes with thin soles.
 
Slight tangent, but did you or your girlfriend watch the confessions of a traffic warden programme this evening? So awful how they are treated!
