Car for a very short commute and some fun at the weekends?

Z4 Roadster

plymouth's pimp game must be tight.

talking of m3's I always remember there was a gash looking one in plymouth on the garage on the wickes. it had some stupid splitter among other things. always parked next to really old vans, with really new alloys.

Good summary to be honest, but > 4 cylinders is not a requirement just a preference, so the Elise and VX220 are still in the hunt (none of these variants had a 0-60 higher than 6 seconds).

Elise
VX220
350Z or Z4 if I can't swallow the 'rawness' of the above and want some more cylinders.

That's my list, off I go to find some! Seems strange to have the Z4 and 350z in with the Exige and VX220 as they're totally different really, but I'll have to discover how different on my test drives.
 
Would be an Elise 111R for me in this situation, but then I've always had a soft spot for them.

If you don't mind kit cars:
Something unique?

Westfield?

Either way, something lightweight with modest power and RWD would get me interested for the fun factor if comfort wasn't an issue.

The fact that if it's raining when I get out of bed, it'll take me ten minutes to put the hood up, pushing in all the poppers etc. The Caterham would be a weekend-only option really, rather than one that needs to be relied upon for commuting also.

Somewhat agreed, for a weekend/low commute mileage car that has no requirement to be practical you would be nuts to test a Z4 and not even try a S2000.

The Z4 does nothing better other than give creature comforts, a better interior and more practicalities, none of which should be a requirement for a weekend car!

I think thats a bit strong. Depending on your preferences, it also offers a better engine. The Z4 my parents have is a weekend car and its great at the job.
 
Perhaps a bit strong yes, wording should have been different. I don't think you can say better engine in the context of his thread though, his potentials/to look at all have varying engine characteristics. S2000 has a different engine.

Depends what kind of a driver he is, if he loves the Elise/VX but finds them too raw then the logical step up while keeping similar driving characteristics is the S2000. If he hates the Elise/VX and wants a less 'involved' driving experience or one where on his commute he can just put his foot into the floor and let the 350 V6 do it's thing then he would likely hate an S2000.

The kit car looks like a little TVR (not amazing, hence the lower price, but it's not going to make you look like a tit..?) and the Westfield's no different to any Caterham suggestion in the thread?

EDIT: My point was, maybe have a look at a few kit cars. Didn't really look far to find those.
