knackered 1.8 mondeo duratec?

Given the username of "dw_88", the location, the price and the fact it's the only red 2003 vrs sold on ebay recently, I'd say it's definitely his auction ;)

I don't think its illegal per-se, as he's a private seller - so buyer beware, but it's incredibly dishonest (regardless of who bought it)

everywhere is a snake pit auto trader and ebay

just been to see a passat 1.8 20v tonight chuffing out lots of blue smoke and not idleing properly

I'm guessing it cost about half or less of normal market price considering your history?

More importantly, how can you justify advertising a car with outright lies - did you not think "hmm, this is a bit wrong" when you were typing the ad?

I would have just gone for the reg plates matching the autotrader ad he linked to :)

Certainly a very dodgy thing to do. On all of knackered crap cars I've sold on ebay I've always described them as such and still got a decent price.

Edit - why is it I get my auctions pulled for keyword spamming when I describe a Toledo as "A Leon with a boot" but he can randomly slap "Golf GTI Leon" onto his auction title and it doesnt get pulled

Because you don't have to know anything about cars to know that "a Leon with a boot" is not a Leon, whereas you have to know a tiny smidgeon to know that a Golf GTI Leon is not a valid type of car.

It's 'misrepresentation' - a false statement of fact that induces the buyer to buy the car. Its actionable as a Court claim whether the seller's a private seller or business seller.

Dodgy sellers get away with it because its difficult to prove. 'She's a great runner! No engine problems!'. Then it blows up 200 miles later and the seller says 'nothing to do with me Guvnor'

I always look at the type of person selling the car as I do the car.
