Hi

I have PC connected to monitor without speakers and a 2.1 speaker set up. My PC is connected to the monitor by DVI. The monitor also has a HDMI input but the monitor has no speakers.

The problem is I have a PS3 which I can view through the monitor but have no way of producing sound.

How can I get the PC to power the speakers with the output from the PS3. I believe the PC has an optical input but if it doesn't I have an audigy card I can fit which definitely has an optical in.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

FYI the PC is running Vista atm but will soon be moving to Win7

As well as the HDMI lead, use the AV cable which comes with the PS3 as this should have 2 phono jacks on it which you'd hook up to your pc soundcards' line in using a 2x RCA female phono to 3.5mm jack adaptor :

On the PS3, set video output to HDMI & audio output to AV.

I'll be looking at doing the exact same thing as the OP soon (PS3 and Mac through the same speakers and monitor).

My Mac Pro has Optical Audio In/Out but my 2.1 speakers don't have this, so should I buy new speakers?

I'm such a noob when it comes to sound tech.
