Iv just secretly been attacked by the cable monster.
any advice on what to do to tidy my cables up?

heres a list of whats wrong.

CPU cable to short to reroute around the back
Motherboard power cable to short to reroute around the back
Card reader has a dodgy connection and it has to go straight it, cant make it come up at a tight angle under the mb
I have a IDE dvd drive. ( had it for 3 years )

My fan controller is fine, all the cables are routed at the back and cabled tied up at the top. thats all there is around the back.

Plan of actions:

1:Get longer cables to reroute around the back
2:get a SATA dvd drive,
3:Fitting my lianli hard drive cage when i get another HD to get more space down at the bottom

Any advice on cable management please say :)

also

Is there any 8 pin extensions for CPUS?
I have a 24pin extension for my motherboard. Just i found it hard to connect it up :\ it took a lot of force to get it in..but it wasnt right in, so i left it out.

Really any advice on cable management and keeping it neat would help a lot. If you could find me a link to buy a CPU extension cable that would be great!

If you wanna know iv got the rear cables all cabled tied up (monitor etc) for it to be neat at the back so i can push the pc right in to its space.

Adding to this topic, when i first built it, i did put everything around the back to see if ti fitted, it never :( theres now a big bulge in the right side panel :(

There are 8-pin extenders so thats a start

Although tbh, you could put it through the little space between your GPU and mobo, like really close to the PCI end.
You can live with an IDE drive, run it round the back of the optical drive tray then bring it back round the inside of the cage.
The cables coming from your PSU going to your optical drives/HDDs etc can all go behind the motherboard tray.
If there are any loose cables that cannot be hidden, try pushing them into a place that isn't too visible through your window (presuming that you have a window) Otherwise, cable tie them and put them in the space between the optical drive cages and the mobo tray

thanks :) i never noticed that! ill buy it as soon as i get the money for a few other odds and ends.

i tried putting the cpu cable there but it didnt work out. I never thought you could do that with a IDE cable? i was told it can cut of reading and all that. As iv said, i tried putting most of the wires around the back but it just pushes the right side panel out :( this is what i need advice on, if somebody could show me the back of there case where there wires are, i could try and copy it! Its just simply my cables arnt long enough. But thats the fun of it :)

ahh right, got you now. Could you post a pic of behind your motherboard tray? this might help us suggest more things for you. I don't have that case (i have a terrible case with no cable management space) so i can't really say much unless i see what it's like. Also, is your PSU Modular?

ill get a pic for you tomorrow morning! iv got my phone off at vodafone and i need batteries for my camera, ill get them when im off to the shops in the morning. Its nothing fancy, all you see is the fan cables into the fan controller, theres about 3-4mm gap from the tray to the panel.
you will also see one of the cable managment holes FULL of wires, infact its probly bent because of all the wires iv stuffed through it.

Looks like mine before I got rid of my IDE drive and got extensions, the right side of my case is a bit squashed on but I can't see that side of the case anyway.

I'd get rid of the IDE drive if you can, makes it look better.

Then remove the power leads you don't need from your PSU.

Then cable tie the wires once you get your extensions isn't a whole lot you can do until then tho!

IDE cables are fine. You fold them diagonally (leaving a |_ bend from looking at the flat side) at the appropriate points for your case and they're every bit as tidy as sata cables are.

Main thing is to buy a few hundred cable ties, I prefer the 5-6" long ones. Costs a couple of quid, but suddenly makes everything a lot easier to rearrange.

Aside from that extensions can help, the issues with your 24 pin one either mean you were putting it in backwards or you happened to get a badly made one, it's not worth trying to force it into the board. I'm not personally using any, but as my case mounts the psu at the top the cables are quite long enough already.

Regarding the back of the motherboard tray. it depends on your case how much space there is. All you can do is keep overlapping cables to a minimum and try not to sent the 24 pin cable behind it.

thanks for the help!
Just tried to extension again and its in fine, once its in properly i find it easier to take out and put back in, must be one of those things when you use a lot it gets fitted better.
I try and keep overlapping a minimum but cable length is my issue :(
