this is gonna be my clincher in the system i build cause i have a socket939 and a amd dual core 3.6ghz and can't get nothing for it anymore.

are intel planning any new proccessors for the 1156 or do AMD have any plans for the AM3

heard conflicting reports the 1156 is almost dead where the AM3 is still going strong.

need a final answer before i decide on AMD or Intel
budget was £700
it was either i5 750 2.66ghz
or the phenom 2 black edition 3.4ghz

but purley based on what socket will be around for longer.

cheers guys

1156 is not by any means almost dead, its a brand new socket
I'd expect them both to be around for some time to come so without my crystal ball cant really answer the question Im afraid

lol looks like i'll have to find mystic meg (anyone remember that weirdo)

i really am stuck so many arguments over i5'5 i7's and phenom 2's quads
i'm not gonna be overclocking, when i put it in thats how it will run and thats how it will stay till i upgrade again

They really are equal, especially if youre not OCing, the AMD is clocked faster but the Intel has turbo boost, just go for which ever you like, youll be pleased with either

AM3 has Thuban planned, 1156 has a few budget chips and some 32nm chips out later. I'd go with AM3 for 'future proofing' but it's your choice.

which one would be better suited to possibly running ati crossfire
700 quid will budget me one 1024mb GPU but a couple of months after i could probably afford another so could link them together

could u spec me 2 mobos

one for the i5 and one for the amd both need to be crossfire compatible at the full x16 for each slot

1156 is dead in the way the best chips for it are currently out, 1366 is the future plans for Intel 1156 was released to compete with amd now not future.

also crossfire would be better on a 790 (amd) than 1156 as I could be wrong but 1156 are only 8x 8x where as 790 can do 16x 16x
