Amazed at this, been getting some quotes for a major service.

OPC Reading, Minor £360, Major £540 (996 C4 3.4). Not bad in itself on the face of it, most people would probably just pay it without question.

After haggling, mentioning indi prices, how i am not sure whether its worth using the OPC, they agree to perform a major service, for the price of a minor, at just £360. Thats pretty damn good going and undercuts the local indi.

Totally shocked that they are willing to stoop this low to be honest. What are your OPC exepriences when it comes to pricing and/or haggling?

Its a shame mercedes wont haggle on prices really, this makes them look like a complete rip off. Porsches are far cheaper to service with price adjustments like this.

Local BMW Dealer promises to match any indi price atm. Worth considering as two cars in my list are both bmw :)

BMW have always been cheap for servicing though, so thats not too much of a surprise. Its the fact that Porsche are also willing to haggle by such huge margins which shocked me, as Mercedes wont at all. Hopefully they will eventually follow the trend. For the moment though, very happy with Porsche! :)

Porsche normally don't haggle at all, but I heard that Reading were matching indys a while back so maybe they've started doing that again.

Perhaps, there is obviously some slack in there. Who do you use? What do you pay to service the boxster? :)

I had the full service done by RSJ in Slough when I bought the car. I used a local indy to fit my exhaust so I'd probably use them again for servicing. I'd obviously give OPC a try first though, see if they can do something with their prices as I do like being treated like a VIP :D

I always haggle with my BMW main dealer and tend to pay indy prices for all my work. I see no reason why Porsche wouldnt do the same.

Quite the oposite, go to them last and see if they will match it. The service as you say is utterly excellent at OPC's so its worth it even if its slightly more expensive. Perhaps (you mentioned you heard they were doing it before) it is only a Reading thing though :(

I get parts at cost and don't pay labour. :p

DIY knowledge + family working at the local FIAT dealer with fully up to date diagnostic units on hand = win.

BMW |= Porsche

BMW's have always been cheap to service so thats no surprise at all. Porsche on the other hand dont generally haggle at all as eidolon has found (at least i have never seen a discount before anywhere). Hence why i am really surprised here.

Worst "Look I've got a Porsche thread ever" ;)

Personally, I've not known an OPC actually not offer some discount when pushed hard.

My Dad's on his third C4S now, and between the UK and Spain, he's always negotiated at least 10% minimum off a service..

In fact, he finds it harder to get discount on his Honda CRV then his Porker..

:)

Demon thats not been the experience i have ever heard of before i must say. Eidolon mentions that he didnt think they usually haggled at all either. I would say that either your dad is a very good negotiator, or he has been lucky with a couple of select dealers. Any idea's which he used in the UK? :)

The C4S he had in the UK was serviced at Exeter (He lived in Plymouth at the time), and when they where between houses in Spain, they lived with me for a while, and we booked his LHD C4S into Swindon..

I don't think he haggled particularly hard, I think it's a case of getting them to accomodate you, especially if you give the impression you will be changing cars shortly, and price of servicing and good customer service are key factors.. In the case of the Exeter garage i no doubt helped that he did pop in regularly as he is often looking at getting something a bit quicker, so he tends to yap to the sales guys quite a bit, they do know him when he walks in, but has never bought from an OPC yet..

Not last time I asked.

They offered me 10% off a 900 quid service in June.

Just to add; I've been back to the parts dept. for a few upgrades since, and occasionally been given 10-20% discounts without even asking.
