dirt 2 benchmarks dx9 vs dx 11

DX10 was naff...

DX11 does have the potential tho to make some big advanced in both what can be done with feasible performance and increases in visual quality.

Then I'm insane.

Games aren't all about gfx, I'd rather devs spent more time and resources making gameplay deeper. So many new games are horribly linear and only take a couple of hours to complete. Of course, there are some that are great at both, but I feel it's a trend.

I'm certainly not going to get excited about any new version of direct x, not 11, and probably not 12 unless it can do something that will really change the industry and quality of games we get.

The DX11 shots are sharper.
The game is coded in DX9 with DX11 tact on.
DX11 was not used to speed up what was already there like in Battle-Forge but used to add more stuff so DX9 & DX 11 is this game are not rendering the same amount of info & effects.
I still expect the Dx9 side of the drivers to be better than the DX11 at this point.

I see nothing surprising.

The less work a card has to do the faster it can work.

It's not as if we don't already accept that everything in the game is fantasy and doesn't have to have any resemblance to reality. More detail can sometimes just be a PITA in certain games.

Interesting all the same.

Well im not gonna argue with the graphics vs gameplay argument because the latter is obviously better.
But graphically things need to advance also so these innovative features can be combined together. You can't argue that.

For example Dead Space and MGS4 two of my favourite games of all time.
Both very linear in respect but its done so well i think there amazing. You don;t care about it

Personally non-linear isn't better in most cases as most developers cannot handle the extra content and out the box thinking style.
By nature humans need some guidance, this is why i think linear gameplay is so popular still today.

Don't get me wrong i prefer non-linear games

Sure, OK. I'm not saying all linear games are bad, it just seems a lot less thought goes into making gameplay better than graphics now. This isn't really relevant to the thread though so I'm not going to discuss it further.

DX11 will improve over time, but it's not a revelation that helps justify spending loads on a new graphics card. I'm sorry, not for me.

:o oops I never saw the tabs at the top for selecting difference resolutions

Anyway on that basis my overclocked 5850 is going to average 50fps in dx11 at 1920 x 1200 with 4xaa and 16xaf which is pretty good if you ask me. I'm quiet happy running nfs shift at 8xaa and getting 40 to 70fps so if grid 2 is similar but with 4xaa and all the dx11 nicest then cool.

If I want a boost I can always turn down the aa to 2x.

its like dx10 all over again, dx 11 will probably fail as well. overall it looks less overbright and smoother with dx 11 but modders can achieve the same effect in dx9 as proven in GRID.

I doubt DX11 will fail - some of the underlying changes are fundemental for next generation games - and actually progress in the same direction as developers are working.

And some of the visual effects, etc. are a nice improvement too.

DX10 failed mostly due to the requirement on vista... and partly due to bad direction early on by people lacking vision of where things were and where they needed to go.

the next successful directX iteration will be the one next gen consoles use.

You deduced all that from just one game!...Awesome. All surveys should be done from just one participant as well seeing as 1 is all that is needed for ultimate accuracy.

looks like i will be fine. ;)

im sure they will fix the crossfire issues.

but im already 10-15frames from 60fps 1920x1200 dx11 with 1 card when crossfire works im sure i will be on a constant 60fps if all goes well that is :)

Only the xbox will directly use a version of DX - I believe most other consoles use custom versions of open source graphic libs that are closer to open GL than DX.

As far as hardware iteration goes they don't generally resemble PC GPU hardware that closely feature wise, having their own optimised subsystems for discrete effects, etc.

DX9 is faster than DX11 shocker!

DX9 has also been around much longer, and DX11 introduces new effects which are going to need optimizing.

Yeah, god forbid new effects (particularly in lighting and water interaction) might have an adverse affect on framerates. I must say that anybody who doesn't realise that honestly either isn't paying attention or is just really thick.

tbh i don't really care what benchmark sites say. i prefer to wait till it's out then test it myself and also 9.12 drivers will be out by then so u should get a 20%+ increase in performance and also the dx11 part of the drivers haven't been optimized yet.

its perfectly normal for dx11 to be slower then dx9 , i would have love to see dx10 and dx10.1 in that graph
