An Asus 1201N thread. 12.1", ION (like a lion....blaa)

Those 330s must take in some juice then if the up to 5hrs stated from 6cell is correct - the 13z for example gets 5hrs from 4 cells!
i think it's probably the other way round - the 13z must have an Ultra-low-voltage CPU. my ultraportable laptop (Thinkpad X200) can Juuuuuust about stretch 6 hours from a 6-cell.

Did yours turn up? If so, how is it?
Pretty much as the reviews say. I am coming from a 16" 4kg Sony so my views are biased, pros and cons:

+ Nice size and weight
+ Easily 10 hour battery life, not tested but got 5 hours for 50% easy
+ Decent sized and quality keyboard

- Screen viewing angles not great
- Can get a creak from the palm rest if you press down
- Speakers muffled if on lap (downward facing)
- Don't like the single mouse button

Not perfect, but for the size and battery life and price it is a great compromise IMO.

for mrk :)

Core Duo SU7300
4Gig
Geforce Go210M + GMA X4500MHD
12 hours battery life (yeah right).

gigitty

The Geforce Go210M is a docked addon isn't it? saw it a while back in a preview news article, looked hilariously large :p

Aluminium shell though !

Cheers for that, had a look at one today and I like it.

Same shell as the UL30 which I'm looking at. Looks really nice in the flesh.

The 1201T got announced today by the looks of it, it uses the AMD Neo chip and GFX. Should sit alongside the 1201N but be beefier GFX wise than the 1201HA.

No idea what the AMD mobile chips are like compared to the mobile ULV Core2Duo chips though

I love using my 13z however, no doubt I will want something even slimmer come summer 2010.....here's hoping ;p

Looks like this is the official 1201N thread, and hopefully people have them by now since they seem to be widely available.

So, my question is - are they stable? Any overheating problems? I want to use it for some light gaming, something like Civ4, where games go on for hours, and I don't want it crashing. I also want to use it for a bit of 3ds Max, including renders, so the CPU needs to go for hours @ 100% and not crash. Maybe some video encoding too. Not bothered about performance, just want it to be stable.

I also don't want it to get massively hot while doing either of these tasks. Moderately hot is fine, just not uncomfortably so.

Thanks in advance.

I have a 1201N and it's a very good netbook, though I've never owned another so I have no basis for comparison.

It does get slightly hot but only in one area (near the fan grills) and even then, it's not too much. I've never had any stability problems though I only get about 5 hours out of the battery while browsing with screen brightness low.

You've piqued my interest with civ 4, I'll install it and attempt to play. I'll report back here.

I've just this minute closed Civ 4 and I can tell you that it runs fine, albeit at around 20 fps- which for a game of this type, isn't really an issue. Turn times seemed quite reasonable as well, in the very early game turns were still <1 second in wait time. I would imagine this ramps up quite a bit later on though.
