**The Dragon Age Origins Thread **

*paranoid alert*

Okay, I just talked to a woman... who basically let me learn duelist. I wasn't really paying much attention / thinking about it at the time. I assume that since I'm a mage it won't affect me at all right?

Since I have 1 specialization currently, and what to learn a different one - with all the random glitches in the game it won't mess up my character right? I know I'm being really paranoid, but with all the bugs I don't wanna get 10 more hours in and then basically nerd rage because my character's bugged! :p

That's how you learn specilizations for the rest of your team, and for future play throughs - don't panic ;)

Just finished the main orzamar quest. Battles are epic.

I kind of skimmed through all the deep roads. Got some of the legion armour. Is it worth going back through all the deep road sections for goodies?

I'm halfway through my second playthrough now...using the console (rar!) for the added flexibility. Yeah it's cheating to an extent but it's good to be able to switch to the party selection screen mid-dungeon! What does annoy is the pathetic loot drops and I am starting to realise that there is no point at all bothering picking dungeon/overland chests as they never have a single decent thing - unless it' a plot specific chest anyway.

The game is way better second time around as you're more familiar with the game mechanics early on in.

Panic much :p

Specializations are a bit lame, both how you learn them and what they do. The tomes are especially stupid as all you need to do is buy them to unlock it, then reload the game to before you bought it and the spec is unlocked for your account. Same goes with Blood Mage and Reaver if you didn't want to take the path you need to tread for them.

Once unlocked a specialization is unlocked permanently for your account on any character.

My second playthrough and I haven't bothered with lockpicking or persuasion, both are pretty worthless unfortunately. They have very little significant impact on the game if any at all.

Sorry if this has been mentioned but Edge just rated this 5/10... WHAT THE HELL!? lol

Noticing other gameplay flaws and and I'm starting to think it's definitely a few points behind BG 2. 5/10 seems pretty harsh though. Just looking through some of the Edge review scores on the website, L4D2 - 9, CoD MW2 - 9, Ass C 2 - 8. Haven't read the DA:O review but I hope they don't bang on about originality after seeing the high scores they give sequels which are basically the same as their originals.

Was subscribed to Edge for a couple of years back in the 90's, it certainly isn't what it used to be.

Persuasion (max) is quite powerful I find - I'm using it at present on my second run through the game. Lockpicking and stealing I can't see any use for though.

I've only noticed missing out on a couple of very minor side quests. Usually without the persuasion option in convos it ends up with me threatening violence and the result is pretty much the same - the npc either gives me the result I would've got with persuasion or after a fight I get the result I would've got with persuasion anyway.

Only just upto the landsmeet again though, maybe they'll be a significant difference in the result there. I doubt it though, it'll end with a fight and the same ultimate result.

I remember using stealing once for part of a quest - getting one of the dwarf lords guys to fight in the Proving by retrieving a letter. I also used to put it into Leliana's AI to steal from the enemy with the highest health was quite funny to see her acting like a rogue in combat and attempting to steal from mobs, they usually had some minor item to give. Poultice, crafting reagent etc.

I've just this second completed it, 83hours. Ending was a little...unsatisfactory.

But I agree - I don't think its *quite* up there with BG2. Its very very good - excellent even, but not quite as "epic" as BG2, imo.

5/10 is ridiculous, however.

You've got to take reviews with a pinch of salt though, especially ones for hyped games. Some of them are hard for no reason other than they want to be different, some give much higher marks than its deserves simply because it was *supposed* to be good.

What was a review of MW2 now... A very short singleplayer campaign and a ruined multipalyer mode 70/100. Sorry but if that was any game but MW2 it would've scored half that.
