***The Official Nokia N97 Thread (Keep all N97 stuff in here)***

Hey all,

I dont often pop on these 'ere part of the forums as I have never been bothered about my mobile really :p but its becoming more important to me due to lifestyle changes (enough about that)

I am looking at getting either the N97 or the N97mini. Is there any difference apart from size and internal space. From what I have read the N97 has 32gb internal memory where the mini has bugger all unless you buy a memory card for it (up to 16gb)

Also would you recommend this phone in general ? I am looking at it for the GPS feature which is quite nice and internet use.

Just reading a few of the latest respones about problems with the GPS aerial has me a bit concerned. I was hoping to get this on Vodafone although I have seen some good offers from Orange.

Don't get either, but if you must (and you shouldn't), get the n97 rather than the mini, if only for the bigger screen (3.5" vs 3.2")

I had a play with the N97 yesterday. I must say I didn't really get on too well with it.

In the end I got an iphone :p Although I must say it is quite overpriced but it really is quite easy to use and since I had an ipod touch so it feels I had a play with the N97 yesterday. I must say I didn't really get on too well with it.

Version 20 installed. We'll see how it goes but I've got a major issue.

Opening the keyboard doesn't change the phone to landscape mode anymore.

Whats wrong?

My key lock slider button fell off on Saturday :(

Hopefully a repair centre can sort it as soon as possible!

Yep, this happened to me. I sent it to repairs took a month to get back as I had motherboard issues too so had to wait for parts.

Finally got the phone back after a month, turned it on, seemed ok but the make/end call buttons did not work.

Sent it back for repairs again, should be back within next few days. I have managed to get £55 compensation so far.

I am so glad I was able to cancel the contract use the sale of goods act with the N97 and return the phone. I will never own another Nokia phone after my poor experience with that phone.

I am waiting for repair centre to have the necessary parts before giving my phone in. They said they should be able to get my phone back to me in a couple of hours :)

In the mean time I am using MyKeyLock which allows me to set double menu button press as the lock and unlock keys :)

Well, I should have my Nokia N97 back from its 2nd time away at repairs, total time without it probably 2 months, if its has to go back again im simply going to say NO and request that they replace the phone with a different phone.

I got it from Dial a phone on the Voda network, what do you think would be a suitable replacement for if I have to get away from the Nokia N97 :(

wouldnt get your hopes up asking what to replace it with when you havnt actually found out that they are willing to replace the model...

is there anyother way to put movies on the n97 without using Ovi?, or even a easy and fast way to use Ovi for movies?

ok, I'll try that app, I did get a movie on it last night using Ovi, but it had no sound for some reason

New firmware out on Thursday 28th, according to a Nokia rep:

There will be a firmware update available for the N97 on the 28th which will make available through the Software Update Maps 3.03 (the Free Version). I confess that i dont know if this is the v21 fw however.

Separately,

The update will be available globally for Vanila devices, i.e. for those without Operator varient firmware.
We cannot unfortunately control the release date for Varient firmware so if you do have varient firmware then the update will not be available.

No news on what it will contain, other than Ovi Maps 3.03.

well thats me done with this phone - cant take it any more and phone4u have offered me an HTC HD2 as a replacement, going to miss the keyboard and loads of storage but at least it will work (even if not as good)
