Car for friend 1-1.5k

So go on then, whats good about the Colt?

The good thing about generic 90's jap cars is when you get in it and turn the key it will start, it won't leave stranded and when you get out again the doors will lock, thats about it.

This tickled me:

Compared to a Fiesta/Ka/Corsa/Saxo etc.. there is absolutely no doubt they are rare. I very rarely see another Colt on the road, I've only ever seen 4 or 5.

I've been wondering for a matter of seconds now how Honda managed to sell so many Civics in the UK yet Mitsubishi only managed to sell about 7 colts, i wonder why this might be?

Likewise i never see any lada riva's about anymore........

I just went through 9 pages of 'Other Mitsubishi' on PH and couldnt find a single Colt that hadn't been raped by a Max Power reader

You will look back on your rabid Colt fanboyism in the future and cringe. I did the same with Xantia's, you will always be way too attached to your first car :)

I don't have a rabid fanboyism, I just have an issue at you trashing something that you know nothing about. I realise that the Civic is technically a better car, with a superior chassis and range of engines. At the end of the day though, we're talking about a cheap runaround, not comparing with a VTi/TypeR. At this point in the model range, there's really nothing in it apart from the Civics slightly larger size.
As for driving characteristic, you make it sound like a pile of turd. It is in fact very closely related to the FTO under the skin, which you've praised on here before.

Looks are subjective so not even worth discussion. They are 'different' though, in that it's not the ubiquitous small hatch that Ford, Vauxhall, Citroen offer. If I'm right, this is what the OP is looking for.

Yep, awesome. So much better, I can really see it

Janesy, don't throw stones when you live in a glass house.

In fact, lets feast our eyes on what a 1500 corsa can offer inside.

Heck yes, serious class there.

Interior debate can be put to bed I think?

Remind me again how many repairs your awesome BMW has had in the last couple of years? My steaming pile of turd has had zero, you need to get real.

First of all, I'll apologise in advance for sticking up for Fox but...

He has a 100k miles or something BMW 330i Sport, it's a pretty high performance car - the loads and stresses on the car as a whole are much higher than Auntie Irma's 1999 Colt.

As such, things will fail - but it's not remotely comparable to a Japanese hatchback designed for pootling around town as cheaply as possible.

People that buy BMWs are more than aware that their cars will cost more to run - but then you aren't driving around in a plastic cocoon that rattles more than your grandma at bingo.

...thus making the point of failures irrelevant - most 'fit for purpose' small hatchbacks are on the whole very reliable until sillyhigh miles.

Well, actually he has a 530 and its over 160k. Loads and stresses on the car are literally no excuse though, a car should withstand its own power and performance. It's also not really a 'high performance' car, it's a big sedan with 230hp, don't get too carried away.
There are plenty of Jap sedans with power levels higher than that which are solid as a rock.
Fox is going to see this is a dig, but it isn't meant to be, I do quite admire the BMW FWIW.

If your theory is true, why do I know people that have every day Vauxhalls that are for ever breaking?

It's a 5 series and it's not exactly an M5. 76BHP/litre isn't exactly highly strung :p

Yeah lets be honest thats not bad. I didn't really think until after I wrote it, but at over 160k it's fair that things will break now and again.
