Out of interest, what sort of idle and load temps would you expect from a true/ultra with an i7 920 at stock (NOT OVERCLOCKED AT ALL) Thanks.

no idea but i have a watercooled rig and ran IBT 10 times and hit a max temp of around 40 degree's so im guessing 50-60 degree's would be good???

Come on tell us please....pretty please what did you get :D

It will depend on a few different factors, such as case airflow, cooling fans used on the cooler/case ambient room temp, mine as an example are, 32-29-31-29. What are yours currently sitting at, tbh idle temps are nothing to worry about though, load temp is the ones to keep an eye on.

my room is warm, quite warm actually and i'm getting 25-30 idle and 58-60c load without an OC. Do I need to reseat the heatsink? it was very odd to install because the silver bit on the back of the mobo got in the way si it aint that sturdy!

and your load temps mate? (with no oc)

I cant remember exactly as i havent got any screenshots saved of stock load temps, ill fire up p95 at stock and let it run for a few mins then report back.

Here you go Alfie.

Thats after a few mins of p95 small fft test, i generally find that my load temps level out after 5 or 10 mins, intel burn test usually adds 4-5c per core.

so I'm a bit high then. I guess it might be cus the heatings on full blast. would you reseat? I'll see what it's like in the morning.

Thanks for that bu the way.

No probs, the heating being on will add a few degrees to temps, is the bracket on the cooler nice and secure as you enquired in my old thread earlier?

Yep my board has the same metal plate on the back, at first the bracket did feel loose, but i managed t get it on, once the spring loaded screws were installed things tightened up very well, i can hardly get the cooler to move at all now.

well i got some spacers with my hk3 back plate that pushed the plate away from the mobo a few mm like this

Screw Screw
==||=========||== <---Mobo
= = <----Spacers
|| ||
================ backplate

hope that make sense lol

You dont use spacers with the TRUE backplate, as it has bits that go through the holes on the mobo for the screws to fit into, if you used spacers these would no longer go through the board.

Those spacers on the HK3 backplate are just to prevent the backplate from warping and touching the motherboard, the TRUE backplate is a completely different design.

Here's an update. I've got it running at 4ghz and it wont go above 75c under 100% load on each core. Should I have a go at reseating the heatsink or is that a safe temp range? I may have used a little too much paste.
