So yeah, on a large roundabout, in the left hand lane, guy in the right hand lane decides to join the left hand lane. Result...

Police pass by the scene so I flag them down. As soon as they get out, the guy starts trying to put the blame on me. There's no way he'll be successful with that kind of claim, right? Damage to the front left of his car, damage to the right rear of mine, including some of his tyre.
I'll pray tonight to the insurance gods, my precious NCB!!

I guess he could say that you had tried to move over to the right lane without looking :(

What a **** though, starting on at the Police as soon as they got out of their car.

Hope it all goes through ok Clarkey.

Unlucky, bad spell of it going on in Motors just now!!

It's the time of year I think mate.

Some dozey women almost hit me head on tonight because she didn't have her chuffing lights on.

Saw another motorist (a woman...) with no lights on yesterday evening. I was behind her, turned my lights off then back on again. No reaction. Flashed my main beam. Nadda. Pulled up along side. Beeped. Mimed (in that funny voice you always make when you know the other person can't hear, combined with the funny hand signals) to tell her to turn the lights on.

She just drove off, completely oblivious. ******* idiot. Then a minute later no less another driver with no lights going the opposite way. Couldn't believe it.

Clarkey. Good luck with the insurance mate.

that's 50/50 tbh imo. that could easily have been either which way.

Yep. I've been told by someone in insurance that unless there are independent witnesses, or one party confesses, accidents on roundabouts are always settled 50:50. Rear-end shunts might be excepted, but you (the OP) are going to have to suck it up. If you want to know why it's not obviously the other person's fault: in my experience most side-to-side (near) accidents are caused by the person on the left (you in this case) cutting in towards the centre. This is not saying that you did, just explaining why no-one is going to take your word for it.

doesnt surprise me

i was hit by a woman who had crossed onto the wrong side of the road on a blind bend. I plowed into the kerb to avoid her but it still wasnt far enough over

no independant witnesses so it got settled 50:50 as she claimed i was on the wrong side. Proof of skid marks and photos of where my car ended up werent proof as she carried on past me and was out of shot. They said the photos could have been faked :( there was no way i was going to win without a witness.

Sounds right sadly, no witness, he can just say you accelerated round the outside of him...

Almost certainly a 50:50 sadly :(

As much as it sucks, I was under the impression that insurance companies penalise you even if the accident wasn't your fault. At worst, they devalue your car so if you have another accident, however minor, it will just get written off.

Sucks
