Mininova deletes all illegal material

Where do sites like Ninja Video come into it, I belive they link media from megavideo, which can be paid for or you have a usage allowance on one file at a time.

Still an illegal site :)

The files are there without the owners permission. Awesome site though it is something the content providers should look at in regards to digital distribution

I don't use Ninjavideo, but from what i heard last night they use veoh to stream hence the applet. Any site that doesn't directly host but links to streaming in some form is perfectly legal, it's kinda grey area.

Damn shame Mininova were the best of the bunch.
I looked at Usenet, Rapidshare etc but couldn't fathom it, can someone explain in laymans terms. thx.

I don't download anything anyway unless it's legit over torrents or rapidshare or whatever. Only large things I download are linux distros or sometimes mods for games. The massive piracy issue with PCs was bound to be addressed one day, I'm surprised all the illegal downloading has gone on this long. People say there'll always be a way, but I think the risks and difficulty in it's implementation will increase until it's just not worth it. Music and movies are not expensive, nor are a lot of PC games nowadays. You can also buy almost anything without leaving your house, so there's no real reason to download anything illegally anymore. That's how I see it anyway.

Some people justify doing it by saying they're 'trying before they buy', or not as the case may be. Perhaps even this wouldn't happen if more games had demos (before release!).

If torrents die out, people will just go to usenet instead. Most usenet subscriptions now have SSL encryption so it will be pretty much impossible for people to snoop on what you are downloading. I believe it also stops your ISP for traffic shaping too.

If usenet with SSL ever gets compromised somehow, there will be something else that comes along to take it's place.

If you want to beat piracy, measures need to be implemented in the software better, in ways that don't make legit user pull their hair out.

I used to check mininova daily for my american tv fix. theres always going to be a way for pirates. i would use usenet but paying to pirate things kind of defeats the purpose.

there are many forums that put American tv shows up streaming with in a few hours of air time.
