Have you sold your entire DVD collection only to buy it in Blu-Ray?

I just buy new releases on Blu-ray now, sometimes buy some second hand DVD bargains. Some of the newest DVDs have fantastic picture quality though, not a million miles from Blu-ray at all. The sound quality never seems close though.

I sold all my DVDs (except my Red Dwarf and X-files) when I was skint back in January and now i'm buying Blu-ray as and when I find films I like and that look good in HD :)

No I won't mainly because about half of what I own on DVD will take a long time/probably never be released on blu-ray.

And if they are I'll be too far along with other newer films to care.

BluRay has lossless audio? I never knew that. I shall definitely be purchasing my films on BluRay now, rather than probably purchasing them. :p

Chimerical, are you on Mac or PC?

I know of a program for Mac that does exactly what you say.

Panzer

What programs that?! Sounds like a week long project to me!

I will buy new releases on BR, and I will replace my top 5 films...

..But no way in hell am I going to replace my entire collection, 200+ DVDs at perhaps 10-20quid a BR

I'd much rather buy a new TV!

Sadly not all have lossless audio!
Aw damn! :p I thought it sounded a little too good. Do you know if it says on the packaging what the quality of audio is, or would one have to look on the internet before purchasing? :p Thank you.

If I could do a straight swap of my DVDs to Blurays then yeah I would, but I couldn't be bothered with the hassle otherwise. Saying that though I have bought a few Blurays that I had the original DVD for, but that was mostly for the added extras.

What I want to do is burn my entire DVD collection to HDD and then just sell/give away the discs.

Only problem is finding a program that will copy over the whole disc completely uncompressed and lossless (so 9GB per DVD) and buying the amount of HDD's needed and then backing the whole thing up.

Copyright infringement ahoy!

No, but I sold my Blu-ray player and bought more DVDs with the proceeds.

DVD should last longer than VHS, I would've thought, because it's so widely used. Blu-ray seems like a con to me. You need a large TV to really benefit from the increased picture quality. I'll go back to BR when they're as cheap as DVDs and DVD players currently are (provided DVDs have been phased out by that time).

A good quality 1080p upscaling dvd player is fine.

BR is nice but the additional cost is not worth the £££.

By all means get new releases or other films/series that you do not yet own in BR but I really wouldn't bother buying all your dvd collection in BR!

Aside from this the only reason to buy a BR player is for the extras. Inglorious ******** is going to be released in about 9 days. The DVD is bare bones but the BR is packed with special features.

Depends. I hooked up a Blu-Ray player to my HP 2475w screen and it was stunning. If you sit close to the screen then Blu-Ray is a massive improvement over blurry DVD's.

I hate DVD now.
