The Hurt Locker

I was so disappointed by this film. It started brilliantly; Pierce is a leading man these days and to have him die at the beginning made me think that this film would not follow the run-of-the-mill Hollywood plotlines. But this film was somthing of a failed hybrid; there was too much action (some of it very unrealistic) for a documentary and not enough for an out-and-out action flick.

As Maddog said:
Good film but the bit with the british was stupid, typical hollywood portraying the british as useless and scared why the yanks are here to save the day.

That spoiled a lot for me, especially when the specialists suddenly became an expert .50 Barrett sniper/spotter team, too. There were many other things too, but I saw it a while back now a can't remember.

DIsclaimer: I'm a fussy git with films!

I thought about that too, but to be fair, EOD do utilise the Barrett as an anti-materiel weapon. I guess you could give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they have some experience with it.

Watched this film when it came out. Thought it was absolutely dreadful. Most ridiculous script ever. Just about a bloke who cruises about in iraq with his own agenda, no real orders and just does what he wants.

A mate saw this and told me how he understood how the main character needed to do what he did. I watched it and I would have thought better of him had he grown a pair and stayed at home. But that would have made the film even worse.

It was a bit dissapointing.

After all the hype I was disappointed, it wasn't a terrible film by any stretch but it felt like a bomb disposal version of Jarhead. Perhaps I missed the point?

On a side note, if anyone did like this then make sure you check out Generation Kill, fantastic mini-series.

I absolutely loved the film, visceral, gripping and nicely paced. Like others have said, its not your typical war movie but i think its all the better for it.
Hadnt heard anything about it before I saw it so had no particular expectations of it and it really did impress me.

One of the very few films Ive seen this year that have really been worth watching.

Just watched this, my first ever Blu Ray.

It was ok, nothing more nothing less.

Some good tense moments but lacking a bit in storyline.

Not sure whether the Blu Ray I bought is a 'keeper' though!

Bump...

Just got around to watching this, and meh...

It was good up until the sniper scene. What was all that about?

One of the brits gets on the .50 BMG and just randomly starts shooting into the desert, he gets shot in the neck by the enemy sniper at 850 meters, only the Brits neck and head was visible, so what a shot. Then Riennes character is hit, then the Americans take the rifle, and are some how able to stay there and continue shooting whilst the enemy sniper doesn't hit them? I didn't even see the Brits or Americans set up the scope, it was just magically set at 850 meters with high humidity. And blood on the ammunition blocking the rifle? What crap. What was the point in the slow motion bullet case hitting the ground? That was the important kill, the enemy sniper, and we were only able to watch the case bounce off the ground. Poor scene, very poor. The movie continued down hill after that, except a few scenes.
