The Hurt Locker

I have to say I am a little surprised this film is going almost toe-to-toe with Avatar etc for the Oscars, it was a decent film but certainly not as mind blowing or hard hitting as other films have been recently!

Bump...

Just got around to watching this, and meh...

It was good up until the sniper scene. What was all that about?

One of the brits gets on the .50 BMG and just randomly starts shooting into the desert, he gets shot in the neck by the enemy sniper at 850 meters, only the Brits neck and head was visible, so what a shot. Then Riennes character is hit, then the Americans take the rifle, and are some how able to stay there and continue shooting whilst the enemy sniper doesn't hit them? I didn't even see the Brits or Americans set up the scope, it was just magically set at 850 meters with high humidity. And blood on the ammunition blocking the rifle? What crap. What was the point in the slow motion bullet case hitting the ground? That was the important kill, the enemy sniper, and we were only able to watch the case bounce off the ground. Poor scene, very poor. The movie continued down hill after that, except a few scenes.

Ha, I said the exact same thing to my colleague today while discussing this film, also when the iraqi got hit by the bullet I expected more damage please, im no ballistics expert but I know it would do a lot more than what was portrayed.

Anyway, average film overall.

I watched this about a month back and thought that it was quite well done and I'm told reminiscent of Jarhead in that there's a lot of the time where it is just the interactions you are seeing rather than the action but it wasn't entirely a satisfying film and maybe that was the whole point of it as a metaphor for war. Also slightly odd in the use of the stars in this film, the most famous people tended to be in it for mere seconds compared to the rest, it's also a bit too long.

Good film but the bit with the british was stupid, typical hollywood portraying the british as useless and scared why the yanks are here to save the day.

As quote below - they were essentially a mixed group of mercenaries/contracted soldiers not British soldiers - I thought SAS at first but was quickly apparent they weren't.

"TEAM AMERICA, .... YEAH "

Why were they scared? The team leader (Fiennes) almost got riddled with bullets because of his strange accent.
Don't forget, they were doing alright before the yanks showed up. Not a bullet went there way whilst they were stranded there under the enemy's eyes. Suddenly, Team America show up, and suddenly half the PMCs are down.

Bet they didn't get their tyre sorted out either.

;)

I thought about that too, but to be fair, EOD do utilise the Barrett as an anti-materiel weapon. I guess you could give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they have some experience with it.

Yeah I don't think its that much of a reach - anti-material weapon training would be pretty common in specialist units like that.

It was a million miles better than jarhead... the gritty intimate look/feel and camera work pulled you into it even if it was a bit contrived at times. There was a couple of times I started to get bored but they didn't last too long.

I've not watched Jarhead so you may be right and it is better than it, either way I'm in no rush to watch Jarhead after watching The Hurt Locker.

I didn't like it - although I didn't watch it all.
Got about 35 / 40 minutes in and couldn't bear to watch anymore which was a shame, was looking forward to seeing it :(

I thought it was ok. Even though the whole point of the film was, look at the crazy stuff they do in 30 days, now they have yet another 365 days. I feel it was worth the watch.

I liked it quite a lot. There were several parts that I felt were pretty unrealistic, but on the whole it was really engaging.
