at the moment i have a 4890 asus voltage tweek card and im thinking of buying another cheap 4890 so my questions are.

1. do both cards have to be the same or can i have 2 but different makes.
2.will i see any advantage in fps in arma 2 which i play the most.

thanks for replys.

It doesn't matter which brand of card you get, any 2 4890's will crossfire together fine, I'd advise getting clocks the same just for seamless performance.

You should see some great gains in ARMA II

Unfortunately ARMA II itself isn't tested here, but you can get an idea for fps gains when using two 4890's in crossfire.

EDIT: As with any gpu (single or crossfire/sli) if your cpu isn't up to the task you will be limited by what your cpu can handle fps wise. Anything such as a high dual core or quad core should handle ARMA though I believe.

Hey there,

I'm on a crossfire 4890 and been playing Arma 2 since the day it was released.

I can say that you get around 35FPS with a single card and 60 with two. I run mine at around 5k draw distance with everything maxed @ 1920/1200 (AA and PP disabled).

With the latest beta patch it's awesome, nothing like seeing trees for miles :)

Thats good to know, I didn't think Arma II scaled particularly well with crossfire. If you were to add PP, or increase the fillrate to 133%, how do the cards fare?

I got performance issue with arma mainly cos I had the setting cranked quite high, you could see it stuttering but nothing too bad, still hard to aim through, this was with older drivers, and the game might have had a few more patchs since

The latest beta patches are really improving the game, it's really nice to see people commenting on bugs they've found, and a developer replying saying it's been noted. A few days later - a fix appears!

Performance has improved massively for me over the DVD version.

Sounds great! I'll have to get this reinstalled and patched
