Wanna see airline pilots really earning their money?

That kick of rudder to line up with the runway just before touchdown is surprisingly satisfying.

I've done it in a Grob 109 a few times, can't fly in more than a 12knot crosswind, but that's more than enough when you come down at 70knots.
 
The Katana I used to fly is a descendant of a motor glider and that thing just did not want to stop flying. Coming in on a gusty day and I felt like I was on a paper kite but yes immensely satisfying when you plonk it down. Always pretended there were 300 folks in the back clapping :p

Most likely the latter! Clipboard in hand and waving a pencil.
 
If they knew of such dangerously heavy crosswinds then shouldn't they divert to an alternate airport?
