Just come across this awesome thread! Looking to go to Thailand next summer with family, a week in Bangkok and 2 in Phuket (ideally we want Koh Samui but there's no availability 
), can't wait....rest of my family are divers and we have a friend out there who runs one of those extreme activity companies from one of the islands.

But as JBuk said, just turn up. No need to book in advance, there will be plenty of places available. You're never going to be hard pressed to find decent reasonably priced accomodation over there. Might be worth booking a first night in advance for the sake of convenience, but other than that there is little need.

5 of us are going and using our points in a timeshare thingy to stay in a hotel/villa type place

Its not great, used to be lovely years ago, now its too commericalised and crowded. Plenty of other lovely places to visit.

CAN'T WAIT!!!!
Not got a clue yet if i'm being honest, i'm looking for a good list of things to see and do and gonna try and make an itinerary for myself!
Obviously I wanna see Bangkok, Phuket, Koh Samui/Koh Phag Nan, but other than that i'm not sure yet! Any recommendations?
Will be landing on 1st April, and I plan on flying from Phuket to Kuala Lumpur on the 24th, then onto Singapore for my flight to Australia on the 26th.

We must have journeyed a few hundred miles in tuktuks in Sri Lanka, and I even drove for a bit. It's only a problem in the bigger cities where the pollution is horrific. I've even got a wooden tuktuk on my desk at work

The Bangkok tuk-tuks have been cleaned up. They run on LPG along with the taxis. They feel a lot faster than they really are.
Well yes, mainly because i hated phuket.
That's sad because you missed the chance to go see some other truly amazing parts of a fantastic country.
