Yep, just found this out an hour or so ago. I know some may know of this but many don't.

The IMAX opens on the 16th December at the ODEON down the bay and there will be 1 showing on the night of Avatar at 20:45.

Tickets cost £10.50 each and can be booked online now (which are starting to fill up quite quick).

Any chance of a link to the booking site? Really would like to see Avatar at an Imax.

I've never been to an Imax and I have a cineworld subsciption..

Worth going to see this in Imax?

On that site, does it let you pick your seats?

Do want. Ridiculous the Bristol one closed tbh :(.

The one in Bristol is due to re-open at some point according to online reports.

Hmm, what happened to the one in Newcastle?

Newcastle have a new state of the art IMAX theater opening at the Metrocentre in December.

I tend to go to Cineworld the most in Cardiff, however (and especially in your case) since you have never been to an IMAX before I can whole heartedly say yes this is VERY VERY much worth it.

The awe I felt when I first saw the screen and then how amazing/3d life like the experience is was incredible, the whole room would move back thinking objects were about to hit them, it is an amazing experience.

For what its worth, it is absolutly nothing like the regular 3d stuff you would get with movies at normal cinema screens.

Thumbs up from me, I just wouldn't go reguarly but then again most of the stuff on at IMAX are documentaries (not that its a bad thing) or other short/similar things. Avatar is a nice change and even more reason to go and see a feature length movie.

This is true, and technologically its going to be the dogs....
Its going to be Odeon's flagship cinema.

EDIT: The whole point of coming into this thread was to mention that the IMAX at Cardiff (and Newcastle) are both IMAX digital screens.

Oh great - the Metro Centre? So i have to go on the A1 during a film release? I'll look forward to that...

Why would a big film release effect the A1? The only time the MetroCentre is busy roadwise is the nights at Christmas and sometimes payday weekend.

If anything, not that the Odeon is located in the Yellow Mall it should be easier to get to than most other cinemas?

EDIT: That sounds much more 'ranty' than its meant to be :p

Well it's not the best road at any time - but surely everybody would want to get to the IMAX? For me the easiest to get to is probably the UCI (or whatever) in Silverlink, there's a disused road that's practically on my back door that leads directly to it :)

Do you live in Cardiff mate?

Yep, I live down the bay

Are they going to be showing more than one imax of this? or is it one night only?

Well the offical opening is the 17th and they will be shown daily I guess, the only reason I am going on about the 16th is because this will be the offical opening of the new IMAX at the Odeon as well so expect some free drinks and nibbles and what not. You get to see the movie a day earlier than the rest of the cinemas.

From the 17th onwards it will be business as normal so you could go watch it anyday there like any other movie (which will be shown on there IMAX screen).
