Switzerland appears to have backed minaret ban

This is dissapointing tbh - a lot of countries nowadays seem to jump to the conclusion that Islam = extremism and terroist activity, when this is simply not true - maybe a ban should be put on synagog's too?

So the extremists meet in mosques with a normal roof. And have one more thing to complain about. That'll show 'em!

well it kills the sky line, and its not part of the countries history.

How does it kill the skyline? I think it adds to it, mosques can be beautiful structures.

Why does a building have to be part of a country's history

EDIT - for anyone who doesn't know me and might be misled by my signature, I am not a Muslim :D

I dont see anyhing wrong with minarets, on the contrary i think some of them are really beautiful structures, certainly more attracive than some modern drab concrete buildings.

They voted to ban it, which seems to me to be the fair way to let people living in that country decide what is acceptable. Wish we could vote on stuff!

Isn't it more to do with the fact that they call out prayer from the minarets at ridiculous times in the morning ?

because Switzerland, traditionally, has a specific style, and all modern construction must adhere to this tradition. thanks to the Ban, Mosques are no exception.

Yes we should have a referendum here too. Ban mosques altogether as far as I'm concerned ;)

Yeah, you're for freedom of speech aren't you...

Next time you moan about the BNP being "silenced" or their right to free speech not being upheld, don't.

No it isn't. You can't hold votes against minority groups specifically because the minority will always lose. Have you any idea what that would involve if the majority were invited to vote against minorities all the time?
