Hey guys, ive got my fan speed manually set to 50%, but when im playing any sort of games, CCC/Ati totally forgets the manual fan speed and starts messing with the fan speeds, how on earth can i stop this.

Hi if its ati 4850, l had trouble with auto-fan / temp's Sapp ATI 4850-

This model - http://www.legitreviews.com/article/730/1/

Came across a thread when l googled it, and a guy flashed his l think it was a MSI ati 4850 with the ASUS ati 4850 bios, so done the same with mine. Now it idle's at AV=49c / load AV= 68c thats with a OC GPU-675 / MEMORY 1100-MHz no prob's at all auto-fan works load 48% been like that for some time, don't forget you flash your card at your own risk.

the reason is simple,

your card is probably useing ATI`s LOOKUP TABLE method instead of the traditional TRANSFER FUNCTION method.

;)

So how do you change that? I would prefer mine the other way around, i have had to manually increase the fan speed because ambient temps are up, but now i'm running 80% even when not gaming.

Time to bring this thread back to life for the exact same reasons.

Ok a little more info this time, card is a Saph 4850 512 card stock cooler and stock clocks, Ive got the manual fan speed set at 55% currently and all is well, nice and silent and nice and cool at an idle of 43-46
But as soon as i launch any games the damn thing totally forgets i have it manual at all and ramps the speed up for no apparent reason and then the whole session the fan is up and down like a yoyo, in the meantime the temp barley gets abover 70 where as the max these cards can go to is 90+.

Does anyone know a 100% way of keeping the damn thing on manual and not messing around with itself. All the above stuff posted back in August worked for a time but now isnt.

One trick you could attempt is to create a secondary profile for manual fan settings. It sounds a bit absurd but you never know, CCC might just let you get away with it.

Remember to get the settings how you want, then head to profile manager, name and make sure 3D settings are saved within the profile.

It's a bit of a long shot, but hopefully it'll work for you.

Are you now on an Asus bios after flashing or did you revert back to Sapphire?

Ive got 3 profiles all with the same fan speed selected, makes no difference which one i select, and yes i did all that above and im still on the asus although ive tried the sapphire again and same thing, the only thing i can think of is the drivers are over riding the manual fan set for whatever reason, i surely cant be the only one having this issue.

I take it you have downloard and installed the latest catalyst drivers? Current version is 9.11.

My only other suggestion is to perform a clean wipe of you ATi drivers and then reinstall, hopefully that might fix the problem.

Don't bother using driversweeper either, I've had nothing but problems using that program. Just use the in-built uninstaller in the catalyst drivers.

Good luck, hope that helps.

well i was on the 9.11's but reinstalled them and setup the profile again, making sure it included overdrive in the settings, and the fan is still being over ridden when playing games..probably just gonna give up on this as it would appear im the only one with this issue.

didnt make any difference unfortunatly, as soon as im ingame the fan does its own thing regardless of the profile setting and manual fan speed set, i think ill give up on this now and put up with the high pitch squeal it makes.
Thanks for trying though Virus, its much appreciated.

ohh well i tryed lol, must be a custom fan on the card, as it should operate under settings regardless either way, hope you fix it if not put up with it lol

its the stock fan lol thats what i dont get, it should be controlled as per normal, just for some reason this one doesnt, ill keep faffing with it and try and get it sorted.

Edit. ive been messing around with RBE and ive figured it out, it was the max temp that was causing it, was set at 89, so my 45-50% fan speed didnt keep it below that ingames hence the fan taking over, i upped the value to 105 (bearing in mind these cards will and can run at 120 . i know mine ran at 120 for months before i changed the thermal compound) now my fan stays at what i set it at and the card hasnt gone above 93 after an hour of gaming, so its all good.
