Switzerland appears to have backed minaret ban

This.

Regardless of what anyone thinks about the matter, the majority have voted against it. That's that, it ends there. Its so nice and refreshing to see democracy actually being used in today's world.

What a load of cobblers.

This is the tyranny of the majority; something any functioning democracy seeks to avoid.

Any theist and member of a religion is brainwashed. Why are HUGE stained glass windows on big buildings acceptable but not a minaret?

Due to the cultural background behind it. Generally western European countries have Christian foundations where stained glass windows have been around for hundreds of years.

Minarets however are not Christian based, and therefore clash with western culture and because of such, are not as popular or widespread.

Churches tend to blend in more with the architecture just because they were built at the same time towns etc were developed, and build of the same stone, style etc.

Ok, but why allow them to build new ones?

Because its part of our cultural heritage, stained glass windows are more accepted and because there are still Christians in existence who want to build new churches. Generally stained glass windows aren't as intrusive as 30ft high minaret towers as well.

You can't hold votes against minority groups specifically because the minority will always lose. Have you any idea what that would involve if the majority were invited to vote against minorities all the time?
You things like a law being passed to make legally held guns illegal.

Paintball and airsoft being driven into the ground an inch at a time.

Minority groups get screwed over when a mob of morons get on the bandwagon with an MP who wants to win brownie points by jumping on as their rep.

Interesting that the anti-minarets campaign uses arguments such as "we don't want to become like Britain". Good to know what multi-culturalism has done to this country's international standing.

So you support a party that uses this as one of it's campaign posters?

They're what the BNP would be like if they actually had balls.

Ok, that is not good.

However, you don't have to support a party to agree with one of the ideas. Otherwise, 57% of Swiss would be very racist BNP type people, which I don't think they are.

I'd support a party that wanted Birmingham to look like Birmingham should, and not like Baghdad, hence would vote to ban minarets on new mosques built (better still, ban new mosques being built).

so for all those supporters of mob rule, when should we start having votes on things like whether the bnp should be a legal party?

I'd accept that if we could also have a vote to see if Hizb ut-Tahrir should be illegal too. I'd also be surprised if the majority of voters in the UK actually wanted the BNP to be illegal.

Religion shouldn't be a factor in planning rules - either way.

I imagine if I asked to put a great big tower and dome on my roof the council would laugh at me, I imagine.

Why is it the Islamic religion is always having problems, I don't often see any other religions throwing toys out of their pram or is it just the news?

I'm just going to stay on the opinion that if they want what they want in the more western countries then it's about time countries with heavily populated followers of the same religion would return the kindness.

I have safe bets you'll never see it in our life time.
