Hi all well after being with BT for years i have made the move to Sky:)

Is the wireless router you get any good or is it better to get a new one from OCUK:cool:

It's part of the Sky contract that you have to use their router. There's no legitimate way of getting hold of the username/password for the ADSL.

I'm not sure what they are currently supplying. I'm happy enough with the original revision Netgear they supplied me with a couple of years ago.

Sky router is perfectly fine for me. You can easily get the name/password from them but their T&C's state that you need to use theirs.

Solid and works fine for me (sagem 2054 - black router). No drop outs or hassles here

I used the netgear (one that looks like sky box) but I had to ditch it in favour of my own netgear router as the wireless range was so poor. I did however get a slightly better signal by turning it upside down as the antenna is apparentley in the bottom of the unit. It does go against the T&C's but if sky won't replace it for this reason I had to do it. Been using my own router for about 4 months now and no complaints.

Sorry also to say apart from the router the sky Broadband service is very good.

Nice, i cant help but notice that that page has a lot of disclaimers on it.

It's pretty random that the user-name and password are generated from the MAC address and serial number.

If it was random that page wouldn't work :p;)

As for the disclaimers, it is just to make sure no one gives him any grief if some poor git gets his broadband disconnected because they're using their own equipment. It's utter crap but it's what Sky wants to do.

I hate the Sky router :( [it's normally a great router - the DG834GT - but their firmware has made it crap!]

I've never really had a problem since they remotely upgraded the firmware about 18 months ago.

Surely it's still Netgear firmware, just with the ADSL setup bits removed from the interface?

Interesting that many people here seem to recommend Sky broadband. A while back I was considering it, but heard far too many stories about an unreliable service?

thumbs up from me as it's very good solid connection and works fine. No traffic shapping nor FUP on the max broadband. £10 a month as well is excellent cost.

Only issues is not with the actual broadband service but if something happens to go wrong, god help you trying to actually speak to someone about your problems at Sky!!

Had no problems when ever I've had to ring Sky mind you thats only been twice once to raise my max speed & again to get my registered computer limit on sky player removed.

Got the Sagem 2054 here myself also, The wireless range isn't the best but there has been no drop outs from it & it seems to be solid whatever I do :)
