Windows media centre vs Mediaportal

Hi all,

As per the title, Im considering windows 7. I can get enterprise for free, but I dont mind paying for ultimate or whatever.

My question is how does windows media player compare to mediaportal? The feature I love about mediaportal is the importing. I can leave filenames as they are, and mediaportal will work out what series/season/episode etc.

Can media centre do this? Any other features media centre has?
 
dont know much about media centre but all i can say is i spent weeks messing around with media centre software and kept coming back to mediaportal.
 
If you can get Enterprise for free, don't bother paying for anything, given that Enterprise = Ultimate but based on Volume Licensing rather than OEM/Retail licensing.

intergrates seamlessy with Media Centre and finds all the titles, cover images, actors etc for all the films that you have stored on the pc and any that you put into the dvd drive.

Find it an excellent add-on and it's free. I jave it running on all the pc's in the house streaming form my home server. But you can run it on just an individual pc.

Media Centre everytime!

I'm running Windows 7 Media Centre with MediaBrowser and it's fantastic, along with Arcsoft TMT3 for bluray playback. Your media can take sometime to organise (metadata etc) to get it to work with MediaBrowser but once it's done, it's simply great and makes Media Centre even better.

Can anyone suggust a plugin or codec to play .mkv file in MC on Windows 7? I have tried the klite codecs pack but they only play .mkv files outside of MC using Media Player but not in MC.

I've not had any issues with the Combined Community Codec Pack.

Also seconding the XBMC recommendation. Using it myself with the Aeon skin and it's fantastic.
 
my movies sucks, and is positvely bloatware compared to media browser.

Media Centre in 7, for me, now has pretty much everything I need it to do and more.

It's far more robust and polished.
