Cleaning a DDC Pump/Reservoir (or any pumps for that matter)

Hey guys, would just like to start a thread on cleaning pump/res outlets as i dont see many on here... also have some sort of white stuff (guessing limescale) in the res? odd as ive just set my watersystem up...

anyways interested to know what guys use to clean the pump/res out? and how they do it??

To clean the pump just take it apart and wash it out, the impeller comes out on the ddc's so its easy to do, as for rads use white vingar. And the white stuff might be from the rads so best to clean them with vwhite vinegar and leave them to sit for no longer than 20-30 mins.

What are you using as coolant? Before you go using vinegar (a weak acid) for limescale lets be 100% that it is limescale. If it's not you could end up setting the white stuff into the plastic.

using de-ionised water with a silver kill coil

It's not limescale then, could well be flux from the radiator. It's unlikely to be algae with silver in the loop so that's the most likely option. If you flushed the radiator then I've no idea.

cheers Jon, i have flushed the rad so dont knw why, seems as though the white stuff is only in the res/pump? am gna give it a good clean out 2day, but its hard 2 get in to the res. will keep u posted!

I've got algae in mine, not come up with anything very cunning for removing it yet. Will be interested to see if you find anything.

Does algae dissolve in something that doesn't attack plastic (might be acrylic)?

my res is acrylic so aint sure, ive tried hot distilled water, hot normal water, with washing liquid also, a lot of guys are suggesting hot water with 10% white vinegar so will see about that too...

Hey guys, just thought u might be interested to know, white vinegar with hot water worked like a charm when i cleaned my res!!! i also dipped the pump and o-ring in there for 20-30 mins and they're fine too!

ahh course i edited back to make sure its WHITE vinegar hehe, np buddy...
