Who has SKY HD+?

Do they plug it into your phone line when they 'install' it? If so why, what happens if you don't have a phone line?

Yes they do...to check that it works and do a signal test as far as the engineer who did mine a few mths ago. Said that if you keep it connected then theres a chance that Sky could charge you £60 or something along those lines.

I just had mine installed, I only had mine connected to 'call back' to a sky server to verify my viewing card, after that I unplugged it from my phone line, he stated that I shouldn't hear nothing about it, but couldn't assure me, however he stated some kind of 'opt out' would cost £25

Really enjoying the HD documentary channels, looking forward to the next champions league night :D

Anyone know about multiroom HD? my dish has a quad LNB so if I acquired a HD Box from somewhere would it be possible to have 2 HD+ setups?

The Sky boxes only ring back to Sky if you have Multiroom, to stop people having a cheap second sub and giving it to a mate..

You could have two HD setups, yes.

Cheers mate, So why did mine have to call back before I could view channels?

It's part of the setup I think, before the box will turn on , it has to dial Sky, part of the contract is that you have it connected to a phone line, but I don't think they enforce it like they do with Multiroom..

Bummer though when you want to order a Box Office movie :(

Nope it's not if you haven't got a phone line when engineer calls / installs you get charged about 15 quid (so engineer can pair card) never had phone line to sky box or sky HD box

It's strange, because if you order off of the internet as I did, one of the clauses is that you have a working BT line at the address.

STRANGE.

I've just cancelled Sky as i moved into a block of flats and didnt think I would be allowed sky there.

However there is a joint dish, so I may go for this SKY+HD offer. Can sky tell me though if the dish is working or do i need to get a box hooked up ?

We haven't got a phone line in the room with the SkyHd+ box so I bought a wireless phone line extender on the High Street and it works fine for Box Office.

I really want sky+HD HOWEVER

As I live on a military camp all the rooms have been wired up to get sky+/HD YAH you think...well yes...but WHY OH WHY must I pay somebody £30 to bring the box to my room...PLUG IT IN....THEN LEAVE????

I can do this myself

they do this when you move house as well.

Even though the existing house already had a sky dish and LNB and cabling..

As for the newcommers to Sky HD, i wouldnt worry too much about what box you get. They're all crap in my experience

I had my Pace box recalled due to the lip syncing issue (amongst others that they couldnt fix) and had a samsung box fitted instead. After about 4/5 months input 1 on the box simply died. The engineer replaced the dish, the LNB and all the cabling before scratching his head and replacing the box. Bingo ! input one came back. Unfortunately he replaced it with an amstrad that seems to need a fortnightly (ish) reboot as the sound suddenly disappears.

I think theres only 1 other brand left to try !!

We've ordered Sky+HD today, can't wait as we currently have a normal Sky digital box which is about 11 years old.
The engineer's coming on the 15th Dec to fit it, is there anything I should know for when he comes, anything at all as I have no idea about Sky+HD.
What's the deal with boxes, should I ask for a certain one?
Will he need to do any drilling work etc?
Thanks :)

if you dont currently have sky + he will run another cable from your box to your dish

If you got Sky+ already then chances are no drilling is necessary as you will have your two coaxial cables coming down from your satellite.
He will just swap over the boxes, configure the box up and will need to connect it to phone line (would be handy to have a phone extention near by, if not, he will most likely have one.

And thats it really!

At the moment we have normal Sky digital not +, so looks like he'll have to do another cable.
For the phone extension, we had one put in when we had Sky installed years ago which is currently next to the box, so the new one will use that if that's what you're on about Carvallino.
It's actually the 11th Dec it's getting installed, thought it was the 15th.
What's wrong with a brown box if it comes in one?
Thanks :)

Recon box! new one comes in black box SOME sky fitters (not all ; ) ) will try to fit recon box and sell new ones on fleabay. Don't worry if you don't have a phone line near some fitters don't use one.
