Thinking of apple 3Gs... stop me!!

I agree "andy", if you have a mac, then the iphone is going to be the best bet, i have a PC.

Im not after people making my mind up, i can do that, but i do like to hear from people on here who have phones and an opinion of it rather than sites that may or may not be paid to say how great the iphone is [gadget show comes to mind] every time they are handed one.

For me, £200 for the phone and £60 a month running costs is worth aking around for. If i could, id buy both and give them a good testing.

Maybe the HTC HD2 with android is what im looking for.

And Vonhelmet, stop giving me more phones to look at LOL!!!! :)

ColiNfr.

Very nice..

I take it you have the HD2? if so, found any issues with it? would you buy it again?

ColiN

No, only the HD. I ould like to get the HD2 but can't justify paying for it for what I get over the HD (damn 18 month contracts).:(

Ah, right. I'd want to have my entire music collection on my phone, which is about 25GB, as I can't be doing with changing it all the time and moving stuff back and forth manually. I just want to sync and forget.

Looks like the iPhone is still the best bet on that front...

You can sync to your HD2 like ny other mp3 player using other software (iTunes restrict syncing to ipods don't they?) such as WMP and winamp at least. Also I'm pretty certain you can stick 32GB cards in a HD2. The 8GB limit may be a misunderstanding as the HD came with a 8GB card as standard (not sure about the HD2).

Well they're £70 for 32GB microSD's, so quite high, but then the iPhone costs more at purchase, so you could have the same memory capacity for a similar cost, on a slightly better contract deal.

The HD2 will work fine with a 32GB microSD, as its SDHC compatible.

Actually the 3Gs (if bought from Apple themselves) costs a shade over £35 more for the 32GB version compared to the HD2 so in all with a 32GB card the HD would be more expensive (however you may be able to find the HD2 for less than £500). It's just the iPhone contracts that are a rip off!

your logic is flawed. All the people I know that have iPhones are because their friends have them and tried it and loved it - were amazed at the seamlessmess; the responsiveness; plethora of software etc. Not because of a "stupid" advert. :)

Spot on.
This doesn't make the decision any easier though.

I can't begin to tell you how difficult this decision is tbh.
My m8 reckons I'll be bored of the 3GS inside a week. I reckon I'll be bored of either inside a week but surely with the apple store it has the potential to keep me amused for longer?

How much of a problem is the lack of multitasking? I barely use it on my current wm6 device. I spose it's handy to minimise IE and it remembers the page but I can't see that causing me a huge problem. Perhaps I'm wrong though and it will be a major annoyance...?

I think someone mentioned you can't use the handset as a generic pen drive/storage device? I can see that potentially being a problem, however.

What's the jailbreak thing about? Is there *really* any need?

I spose I'm looking for things that annoy you about your iphone; speak up chaps!

I asked that same thing in the Apple forums and was told it wasn't a big deal, but I'll bet if you ask here people will tell you it's the end of the world. Go figure.

Meh, carry a flash drive.

It allows you to run unapproved software. Can't tell you much more than that.

lol, so true :D

I'm guessing you actually have one then? Is battery life proper dismal?
Using all the pretties I would expect it to rape the battery (hours) but in idle mode with the odd call/txt, I would hope for 2, perhaps 3, days out of it?

Not got one, but been asking loads of these questions myself as planning on one in the new year.

Think you might be being optimistic with the battery life...

I think it'll be a 3GS for me on o2. If the worst happens, it will be easier to get rid of than... anything else.

It's not just the lack of multitasking by choice (ie. "oh, I want to minimise Safari, play a bit of a game and then start where I left off"), it's that in the majority of applications if you receive a text/email or similar the only choice is to ignore the message (before seeing what it says, too) or quit the application and then have it restart from the beginning when you go back to it.

So what happens when the battery goes totally dead? Obviously that wouldn't be for a long time but as it's built in and non (user) replaceable surely it'll happen some time?

I'll be getting a new phone in the new year...not sure whether it'll be this, N900, Droid/Milestone, SE X10 etc etc... argh decisions!!

VAT is going back up in the new year which will, presumably, increase the price on these. Prolly getting mine this week.

Use an application called "Backgrounder" and you can do multi-tasking on the iphone!

Yeah, thats what I meant, contract. Its what I'm looking at at the minute you see, HD2 vs 3GS contracts, and I simply cant justify to myself getting the 3GS.

I guess I could get the HD2 contract, flog it and buy a 3GS though...

Gah....decisions decisions, just when I'd my mind all made up!

Got sauce? Only sites I can find say the max size is 8GB. Great if it's not!

HTC says its fully SD 2.0 compatible, so it should support 32GB. If it doesn't, then its not SD 2.0 compatible.

Just noticed SDXC (SD 3.0) will be pretty awesome, 32GB - 2TB!

Just branching out a little... iphone insurance. Looks like default option is 7.99/month? Had a quick squint round and this actually looks fairly competitive.

Wonder if it would be covered under contents insurance though?
