The Pacific **NEW TRAILER**

Really really hope this lives up to the hype, trailers look brilliant but after all the anticipation can it possibly be good enough? Will the story line and characters match up to those in BOB? I certainly can't wait to find out, wish the BBC were showing it again so I didn't have to wait months for a terestrial/DVD release!

Really looking forward to this when it starts on Sky (I believe its April 2010) as BoB is easily one of my favourite TV shows of all time.

However, I am not expecting the storyline or characters in this to match up to those in BoB. Part of the sheer magic of BoBs story and characters was them being "factual". Was amazing to watch the episodes and then get the little bits where the actual soldiers portrayed spoke about it.

As far as I'm aware Pacific isnt factual featuring the actual soldiers, its more a story based upon the general events of the moment, so I'm not quite expecting the same connection that I had with the BoB characters.

Still looking like it will be my TV show of 2010 though :)

it is factual :) , its based on 2 factual memoirs by Marines, Helmet for My Pillow by Robert Lecke and With The Old Breed by Eugene Sledge. Plus the story of John Basilone the only marine in WW2 to receive both the Navy Cross and The Medal of Honour.

I'd imagine the characters around the main protaginists will be as important as the players in BOB & the story will stick with them as the island hopping begins. I'd be amazed if you didnt get talking heads type stuff from some of the remaining Marines at the start, time drags on a lots of those guys arent with us any more , but even so i'm sure theyll be seen.

With The Old Breed was quoted a lot in the Ken Burns PBS documentary series The War, and a few of Sledges fellow marines popped up in that including Sid Phillips his best mate. A great series by the way if you've not seen it, looks at WW2 from the angle of 3 or 4 small communities and the guys within those that went to fight. A lot of new WW2 footage, much of it restored and sound added to the silent bits, very well done and powerfull stuff.

Ah, thats excellent news then.

I dont mind it being on Sky at all, but then again I would say that as I have SkyHD. If I didnt I expect I would be joining in with the complaints too. I suppose really its not Skys fault, if no other channel could be bothered to pay for the show its really the other channels fault. Perhaps if they focused less on soap operas and reality dancing on strictly ice X talent brother jungle challenge, they might have some budget left to actually buy stuff like Pacific, Bones, BSG, Lie to Me and House.

It says on wiki (May not be true) that the series has been bought by Sky and will be aired on Sky Movies in Spring, why would they broadcast a mini series of 10 episodes on Movies and not on Sky 1?

Dont complain about it, it means it will be aired advert free....huge plus for me..!!!

Being on Sky makes it an utter fail 100%.

Being on Sky makes it utter win. No shoddy BBC scheduling putting it on SD but not on HD until a week later, or scrapping the last episode on HD completely (like they did with a series of Heroes).

Oh, and 5.1 sound.

But on Sky Movies ? , thats a blow didnt realise that. Wont be taking up Sky Movies for £30+ a month just to watch this.

How many people will now miss this due to that ...

Really looking forward to this, Same people that did Band of Brothers which I think is one of the best series made for televison. The trailers look utterly brilliant.

Having it on Sky means no ad breaks every 15 minutes, which is a massive bonus for me as they drive me potty.

If a person is paying for Sky "just" for The Pacific, then I agree.

Luckily for me, I dont pay for Sky just for The Pacific. I pay for it for loads and loads of other tv shows, movies and sport. To be honest I cant think of a single program that I actually watch on "normal" Tv , I'd quite happily do away with those channels if I could.

Not the same for everyone of course, but certainly within my circle of friends and acquaintances everyone who has Sky , at the least has Sky Movies too anyway. I do have a few friends who dont have the Sports, but they all have the Movies. As I say though, wont be the same for everyone.

That sucks don't have movies and won't be getting it for that. Will have to wait for it to come out on blu-ray. What is movies extra £16 a month or something stupid.

i had it on offer for 3 months for £7 a month and it was good, but Sky was still having teething issues with Lip Sync on HD channels and every other HD film i watched was out, which was most annoying. Didnt watch that many films as had already seen most of the newer stuff and only wanted to watch them in HD. Most of the older stuff had seen many times before and it seemed a very limited selection going round HD, this was a year or so ago, its probably improved by now.

I bet it would have been on the same time and day like "life" and top gear. It's on sky movies and that is extra. So It is a fail

Just not long finished watching Band Of Brothers and well WOW. Want to go out and buy it on blueray, possibly the best infact yes the best tv series I have ever seen.

Cant wait for this.

As much as I loved Band of Brothers and will most likely love this as well I can't help but wish someone would make a British version about our boys (and girls) who thought and died from the very beginning of WWII to the bitter end.

I'm with you on that. Doesn't take away from how much I'm looking forward to this though

Damn! this looks sweet. Loved BoB and this (from the trailers) at least visually looks to surpass it.

*must get round to putting bigger drive in my sky HD box by March!*
