I recently tried to overclock my Asus 5850 and found it wont hardly clock.

I tried the overdrive panel first and that went to 975ish core and 1000 mem and passed the test ok. I played this for a while and seemed fine.

I keep reading of people hitting 1000core and 1300 mem with the same card but as soon as i take the mem over 1000 the card locks up. Ive tried the msi afterburner, the amd gpu clock tool and asus bundled tool. Also upped the voltage in all.

Anyone else with the same card getting decent clocks or the same problems?

Cheers.

Thats pretty good core clocks, not sure what your complaining about :). I agree memory clocks are a bit poor though.

Maybe your confusing 5870 overclocks with 5850 overclocks on air.

725mhz to 975mhz is a significant overclock imo

I forgot to add it vpu'd after a while thats why i tried the other methods. I also cant get rid of the dreaded 2nd monitor flicker once its overclocked.

Nothing wrong with that OC, it's actually pretty good, your expectations were just to high.

My HD5870 won't even do 1000MHz on the core stable with the highest voltage I can give it, only 1250MHz on the memory (1200MHz Default), pretty poor overclock compared to what I'm used to.

Your HD5850 is good in comparison, so be happy and don't put to much faith is the high overclocks many users post here.
