A teenager burned his 17-year-old girlfriend to death in an act branded 'barbaric and evil' to a murder trial today.
Stewart Blackburn, 18, deliberately doused Jessica McCagh in petrol and set her alight in a crime of 'extreme wickedness', jurors were told.
Prosecutors said Miss McCagh lost her life in the 'most awful of circumstances' and 'paid the ultimate price' for Blackburn's temper on April 25.

Possibly the most horrific way to go... and to someone that you love no less? It makes me wonder just what kind of person does that. There are sick people in this world, sure, but some people really tip the bar.

Not only that but he lied through his teeth about the whole affair, not an ounce of remorse. He said she was set alight by a joint, which as quoted by the judge is not actually possible.

I don't know how the defending lawyer sleeps at night either.

Neil Murray QC, defending, said the evidence in this case was 'horrific', but he urged the jury not to be swayed by emotion and to look at the facts.
He said they must not speculate or make up conclusions in the absence of evidence.
He said the jury should return a verdict of culpable homicide, saying the Crown had not proved murder.
'Stewart Blackburn was not murderous. Stupid? Yes. Lying? Yes. Murderous? No.'

Meh. I try not to get drawn in by the media, especially the Daily Fail which I normally read for kicks. But it does make you a little depressed that we're capable of such things.

Nasty nasty ********. How can a QC defend someone like that.

Fully star Swearies!

They have to if he said "not guilty?"

Not 100% how this works though.

Don't quote swear words or swear words which are partially stared out please.

In the movie elite squad, they burn a girl and boy couple by putting them in tyres(like several stackewd up, them inside) and they die burning watching eachother. I know its just a movie, but my point is hearing about people burning to death is horrible.

Someone has to - thats the law of the land :( sucks but if you were innocent even tho it looked bad you'd want someone to do their best to defend you too...

As to the case in question... its unbelieveably horrific...

He looks like the needs the absolute **** kicked out of him repeatedly, every day for the rest of his life. That's absolutely sickening, I wouldn't dream of doing something like that if I could get away with it even to my worst enemy, let alone to somebody I love.

I seriously hope he gets killed in prison.

makes you wonder how far that extra .1% or whatever difference in dna from a chimp has got us doesn't it?

Death is far too good for this person, a life in proper penal system would be all we could hope for. I thought about making some stupid quip about bbq's and chicken but to be honest feel a little sick.

RIP.

The court heard previously how Blackburn had woke Jessica's parents, Garry and Marion, at 4am on April 25 to tell them Jessica was dead.
Mr McCagh, who raced to try and save her, made it just in time to hear his daughter say: 'I don't want to die, Dad. I love you.'

I can't imagine how her father is coping with this.

Jesus.

What i am wondering though, is what kind of person would try and defend this guy and try to get him a lesser sentence? Defence lawyers - nearly as bad as journalists and politicians.

Im struggling to see how he could have pulled her tbh, he must have had some knob on him.

Terrible that, poor lass, condolences to her family and friends :(
