Everything thats wrong at the moment

10. Routemaster buses in London
As I understand it, the old routemaster buses are being taken away from us because of health and safety and the fact that people can hop on and off with ease. I admit this could be slightly dodgy but with a bit of common sense they are no problem - therefore hundreds of buses have been replaced which is a waste of money, all they needed was an oyster thingymabob at the back and modifying to help the disabled.
Solution: Bring them back and sell the crappy bendy buses

I thought routemasters were taken away because they were very old, very dirty and didn't hold that many passengers. New ones have been designed and they are returning to the capital's streets.

11. Take off smoking warning stickers
I am not a smoker, never have been, but I don't see why people who do choose to smoke should have to put up with massive stickers saying they will die. The government must remember the money they are getting from this.
Solution: Take off smoking warning stickers but people still shouldn't be allowed to smoke in public buildings.

Makes no odds; do you think people who smoke (including me occasionally) don't know exactly what cigarettes are doing to them? Well we do, always have done and we still choose to do it, slogans and pictures make no difference at all.

12. More war monuments
Our guys out there are fighting for our country, (many of which probably didn't want to go to war against Iraq), are treated like **** when they get home, they are friking heroes guys! I saw some thing where kids were mocking this guy who had his arm blown off(was posted on here a while ago), that is just disgusting as far as I'm concerned.
Solution: Treat war heroes with respect, look after them etc.

Would prefer to spend the cash on kit for soldiers and hospitals for the injured. Almost every town has a memorial already, I don't think we need a programme of building more.

13. Proper cycle lanes
This is tricky, I know, but I would be much more inclined to ride to work if I didn't have to ride on the road, cycle lanes on paths would be ideal.
Solution: New Roads being made should have 'proper' cycle lanes

Cycle lanes on paths are a terrible idea. Actually, most cycle lanes are a terrible idea, but having them on paths is even worse because it means you have to share them with pedestrians and you have to stop every 15 yards and give way to someones drive, not to mention proper junctions.

14. Stop putting pressure on students to go uni!
I have recently gone through sixth form and I found myself in overwhelming pressure to go to uni. This is wrong to me, I should not be under this pressure, I have been told that I will for sure get a higher paid job if I have a degree. I was on the brink of going to uni but a nice little ICT job popped up which I took, and I'm hoping to prove these people wrong
Solution: Apply pressure on students to get a job OR go to uni and not just hang around on streets

This I agree with wholeheartedly. Rather than raise student fees across the board I think that national planning should look at what skills we do and don't require and price courses accordingly; e.g. medicine is free and political science costs £200,000 a year.

15. Kids should stay at school until 16
This has been raised to 18, honestly, what were they thinking, in those 2yrs people who didn't want to do A-Levels are going to make it hell for those who did, it is an utterly ridiculous idea which needs to be taken away and forgotten immediately.
Solution: Put things back how they were, kids can leave school at 16

Agree with this, but I prefer the German model where kids can chose to do academic subjects or vocational skills, such as car mechanics, plumbing, etc.

If money is the issue, then I'm afraid that is no solution. Boris claimed that the cost of hiring conductors would be ~£8million per year, but it later transpired that it would cost upwards of £100million, just for the conductors salaries.

But when I walk into Sainsburys and I want to buy a lottery ticket, behind the till all I can see are these messages, its unnecessary

Don't agree with number 13. They may look the part but cycle lanes on serve to make motorists think that cyclists should stay within the confines of the lines. Cyclists can use all the lane when necessary and they have been shown to decrease the space drivers give cyclists.

I agree with the ones about education. At the moment Labour want everyone to be equal. If you think about it, if we ended up with everyone equal we'd have a country full of doctors and lawyers etc. however they'd all be knee deep in s*** as there would be no one to clean up the rubbish.
I give the same amount of respect to anyone who does a job as long as the job is useful and not some Government made up rubbish. Doesn't matter if the person is a street cleaner, a dustbin man or a lawyer or accountant.

Labour need to realise that people don't want to go to uni / do A-levels, they only stay on to do A-levels so they can get their £30 a week. This lowers the average scores and we look bad, so the Government then makes the exams easier and we are left with an undereducated workforce with nothing to distinguish the best students from the good.

We need apprenticeship schemes where people gain useful skills which have the same credit as A-levels. Jobs where you can learn "on the job" shouldn't require a degree they should also have some kind of apprenticeship scheme.

I don't think they're designed specifically for people who already smoke and are addicted (whether they admit it or not!). I think they're much more beneficial in preventing and putting off young people from taking up the habit, for all the well established reasons why it's a bad idea.

I think that the pictures are a good way for the government to slowly discourage smoking, and give enough time for them to slowly get used to the loss of income from that sector, hence why it hasn't been eliminated by crazy prices or similar yet.

As I said, always have known. I don't know a single person who after taking up smoking suddenly realised that they were bad for you. Everyone knows smoking is bad, they simply choose to ignore it, just as they choose to ignore the slogans and pictures.

I don't agree, but let's move on anyway.

2 is an interesting proposition.

OP, how do you feel about persistent ENGLISH re-offenders?

i certainly do agree with a new immigrant doing a serious crime and getting deported(god knows ive had enough trouble with one).. we shouldnt have to pay for his upkeep but the bit about unemployment benefit pretty much sucks(im not on unemployment benefit incase you're wondering).
what about the single mothers for example who's partner has just left them ? or the people who are disabled or the areas of the country where it's just really really hard to get a job ?
we can't just let our own people starve yet seem so generous to everyone else in the world.

What's current JSA? £70-£100 a week?

Try getting made redundant in Germany or Scandinavia. Mate of mine, aged 23, got made redundant as an engineer for HP in Germany and started benefits on around 80% of his previous salary dropping by a fixed amount each year.

He spent the next two years smoking weed and playing on his play station with precisely no intention of getting a job.

£50pw for me, and rent rules that would usually result in homelessness. But they do pay higher taxes for the welfare systems in Europe (direct taxes I mean).

1. No free bus travel for kids

you are mean! i mean i have to travel like 1hr with bus(2 buses 4x a day) to get to the college.. do you think i would be able to afford even the little sum you are talking about 40p ? x4! = 1.60p x5 a week... nearly 10quid where the hell am i meant to get these money? parents no go, EMA = with bus at least once a week late! win win aye?? :/

Oh boy do they, but I wanted to make the point that our benefit system isn't really overly generous, it's just that some people learn how to screw the system.

i think i phrased it badly:p

i meant generous as in ....if someone enters the uk illegaly we dont just kick them straight back out or even if they are not illegal we give them permits to stay but not to work ...it just seems silly to me if our own public wasn't allowed any unemployment benefit but we gave it to others.

It is generous if you slot into the right category (25+, kids, disabled, asylum). If not, good luck on your own.

Dunno what JSA is now but 4-5 years back I was on it for awhile before I managed to move to a place with better job availability - and it was £44 a week JSA and £75 a week housing benefits... and my share of the rent was £380 a month - so I was slowly eeking it out of the JSA - wouldn't have been able to afford it in the long term - then no idea what would happen.

I was fortunate in that I had the opportunity to move to another part of the country - coz I couldn't have afforded to move - and I had a job within a month then - back where I had been living I could have easily gone on for 3-4 years before managing to get a job - and that was with trying.
