Iracing Going Cheap for a Few Days

I've just renewed as well after my cheap 3 month trial in the summer. Still a bit daunted about having to purchase cars and tracks but there is plenty to practice with on the base cars for now!

Pigeon, on the plus side they recently reduced the price of all the content, still costs but it's less at least :p

johny, have you overclocked your system, I remember having problems with a cpu overclock when I first started, no problems with anything else (even orthos etc) but a bit more voltage fixed that, not had a problem in the year or so since.

If you're not overclocked try emailing [email protected], they're fairly quick to reply and helpful from all accounts :)

My pc is all stock clocks and all other games run fine.
I just bought iracing with some extra tracks and cars and a new g25 to play it at it freezes solid then i hear the car crash.
Win7 log says its the iracing exe that stops working.

Definately get onto the support then, it's not meant to do that :p

I've not heard of any general problems with win 7, I've used XP and now use Vista 64 and both worked perfectly. But as said the support team are rumoured to be quite helpful, I've used them once for a non-software related query and the service was very good, but then it was a fairly simple question :p

Hi Johny,

I use Win 7 (Ultimate 64) with no problems.

The only problem I've had with iRacing was a year or so ago and that was due to virus software I was running but that stopped the game from starting rather than crashing inside a race. I emailed the support team at that point and they provided an excellent turn around in providing advice for a fix. I'd recommend sending them an email and I'm sure they'll help sort out the problem.

It's a great game (though very tough to master).

Ive got over 50 games and they all play fine so something in iracing doesn't like my pc spec.
Superstaff ive been playing gpl for 10 years and have all the pappy nascar series.
if you've not played gpl get the demo its still a great sim and guys still race and mod it.
plenty of us still on vroc.
I spent 6 hours playing live for speed yesterday and that ran perfectly so im not very happy about paying £100 for a sim and a few extra cars and not being able to play it.

Ive turned off shadows and AA ive done 2 runs and its locked both times.
Im running 200 fps with shadows off and i left gpu-z running to check gfx card temps and its 57c.
Cpu temps are all 4 cores under 30c

This game is well expensive, what do you get in return?

You get less money in your bank account. :->

As someone who balances a relatively low wage with relatively extreme tight-fistedness, I started out completely horrified by the costs. But after a year in & out -- during which time I slowly became used to both the costs and the racing culture -- I've found it harder & harder to enjoy other sims.

NFS:Shift makes me grin as I'm thrashing round the Ring, but that's about the only other sim/game which gets fired up on my triple-screen racing machine now.

If you're not into racing in a fairly big way then iRacing has nothing to offer you. And even if you *are* into racing sims, iRacing is still a very expensive hobby by PC standards, and hard to justify. But if you can swallow the ongoing costs (for both one-off content and the subscription) there really is no better simulation code to be found on the PC. Or anywhere else probably. The online racing is almost a bonus... a somewhat frustrating bonus at times, but then that's racing against people for you. Sometimes frustrating, and sometimes -- as last week in the Late Models at Lime Rock -- stunningly satisfying.

The $75 deal (about £1 a week) even got me to sign up for a full year, and I intend earning the full participation bonus, which knocks $40 off next year's subscription. Whether or not we'll see another offer this low or not will depend on many factors. I suspect by the time next year the service may be even cheaper, and more flexible, because while numbers are up nicely, there is no apparent mad rush to join despite the lower prices. They are still low*er* rather than low enough to encourage the mass participation iRacing really needs to function well.

Having said that, if you race at peak times iRacing does function pretty well.

Anyway, the bottom line for me is despite my early love/hate relationship with iRacing, I'm glad it exists and that Dave Kaemmer is still employed doing what he does best. The sim world would be a poorer place without him in the business, and I'm happy to be contributing even if I think there's plenty more evolving for this project to do. Others will have much better things to do with their money.

You get the best racing sim there is,

The best online 'arrive and drive' system,

And a recently added decent private league system (albeit this costs, and could do with some tweaks, but I'm confident at least some of those tweaks will be implemented in the next update in feb)

On that note, a decent sized update (new features/content/tweaks/wonderous stuff) every 3 months.

Basically I've been a member for over a year, I've got all the content, most of which was bought at the older, more expensive, prices. I've also spent money on a G25 and a pc upgrade and slowly working my way towards a triple monitor, mostly down to this 'game' and frankly I think it's been worth it :)

Its fixed woohoo.
I was running the game with the frame rate unlocked but there's a option to cap it at 82 i think it is and i tried that and run for 3 hours trouble free.
Iracing cost $$$$ buts if your a serious race sim driver its the best there is imo.

I love iRacing, although I am relatively new at the game, the handling of the "slowstice" seems so realistic that it actually seems to make me better at other games.

I played against my mates on Forza 3 and having only played it once before (with one of my mates being level 30) I beat them time and time again, always getting the fastest laps, it just seemed a total breeze in comparison!

iRacing though is definately worth the expense if you really do like your racing sims.:D

I'd agree with most of the comments above.

For a racing game you don't get much better realism from the cars and the tracks.

Is it expensive? Ok $75 for a year, so just above the cost of a new paid for ever game. But how many of you can actually sayt your still playing games you bought a year ago?

For a lot of people though they get very frustrated with the game as they can't drive it like Grid, NFS or many of the other race games where you can go whatever speed you want through the corners and get away with it.

iRacing take time to learn and master (and I'm no where near that at present). But the joy from shaving a couple of tenths from your lap times. The joy of getting breaking point and line through the corners is immense.

Also the on-line players are playing the game with an adult approach, none of the muppets you find in some games who just go on and try to ruin everyone else's race by parking in the middle of the track or driving the wrong way.

Give it a go, especially at the discount trial for a month, you won't regret it, but have patience, take your time and learn the tracks.

See you on-line.
