dirt 2 benchmarks dx9 vs dx 11

sorry

1920x1200 Ultra settings 8x AA

im on a 5870 Asus rampage gene 6gb ram and i7 920 @ ghz

i play in 3rd person mode maximum zoom distance

my min FPS was 45 and max 69 with avg of 68 something (thats from memory)

il run it again tonight and try some 5760x1200 eyefinity lol

It sounds like you aren't running the benchmark but are judging that from actually playing.

Redone this benchmark again as i installed the ati hotfix. It improved my results a good bit.

1680 x 1050 - 4 x AA - ULTRA settings
min_fps="48.756508" av_fps="60.301926"

1680 x 1050 - 8 x AA - ULTRA settings
min_fps="51.079208" av_fps="57.792637"

5750 in crossfire @ 750/1200, win7, I7 @ 3.8

I think this shows how much people need to rerun these benchmarks and take averages if they wish to compare :) better min fps if you up the AA :)

Their was a spike at the end of the run which killed my min FPS on 4aa. Sometimes it happens to my computer so that is prob why its worse then my 8AA min fps.

Going to run it again on 4aa and see if it happens again :P

Did it again on 4aa & turned off programs in the backround which i think causes my sudden loss of FPS sometimes. Prob some program giving problems.

min_fps="51.982841" av_fps="61.663803

i was playing the morocco level over and over again best time so far 3mins6 seconds cracking game cant wait for steam to let me download it.

2 4890 in crossfire 1920x1200 ultra settings 4aa

Minimum FPS 83.1
Average FPS 95.8

setting it to 8aa

Minimum FPS 73.8
Average FPS 98.5

Should have a 5970 turning up in a couple of days, be interesting to compare the two

I re done the test's again after i had found out that my CPU clocks set them selfs back to default 2.67. So i put them back up to 3.8

1680 x 1050 - 4 x AA - ULTRA settings
min_fps="52.821152" av_fps="63.517620"

1680 x 1050 - 8 x AA - ULTRA settings
min_fps="52.732952" av_fps="60.245667"

Only an extra 3FPS with all that extra CPU power.

5970 @850/1200

1920x1200 - 4xAA - Ultra
min_fps="52.229324" av_fps="68.390594

1920x1200 - 8xAA - Ultra
min_fps="59.870499" av_fps="66.516235"

This "benchmark" seems to be too random to actually make the results comparable. I mean, turning up the anti-aliasing increases the minimum framerate. And the results still seem to be a bit on the low side, even with the DiRT2 hotfix drivers.

Slightly off topic: I have allways used a PC for FPS and Strat games reverting to consoles for more 'arcade' type games. But now my PC for once is pretty decent and i got the free Dirt2 voucher i think all HD5xxx owners have received. And looking into the game i am quite excited about playing on this machine. Unfortunately the last time i used anything other than mouse and keyboard on the PC was when i paid 100 quid for a supreme commander joystick for Privateer 2: The darkening so I don't really know what to get to race with. My budget is limited but I see the game is compatible with the xbox 360 pad, are they any good I have never used one?

If you want a gamepad for the PC for gaming. You cant beat a 360 controller. Or if you know of another more comfortable one, with triggers (a must) with all the buttons you need. Then get that.

Most PC games are optimised for the 360 pad, everything just works without touching anything. Plug it in and go.

Unless you use a USB audio device... then the 360 controller absolutely destroys the sounds. A PS3 controller is also a good option, although not entirely sure on state of the drivers, haven't tried for awhile. Even a wiimote can be easily configured on the pc, with motion sensing so you can pretend you have a wheel :)

Odd... with my 5870 @ stock (and machine spec in sig) :-

1920 x 1200 res, high settings, no vsync or msaa....

1st run - 58.8, 50.7 (Avg, Min) - wahay!
2nd run - 35.0, 29.1 - erm.. what??
3rd run - 34.1, 28.3.... eh???

At this point I noticed that the benchmark seems to be a bot rather than a set path. Finished in various positions, something other cars crashed etc. So won't get the same result every time..?

4th run - 33.8, 26.8

Switched everything to ultra low, and got 101.5, 87.2.

Enabled 4xmsaa - got 88.1, 72

Game was choppy as hell though, so enabled vsync so nice and smooth... and got 58.8, 54.0.... erm... what? would it not be 60.0 60.0 if it was capped at vsync below the figure above? Odd.

Using 9.11 release drivers. Dunno why I'm getting a fair bit less that some of you guys on here with comparible gear. :confused:

im getting similar problems to you, runs perfect a couple a times, stutters loads others. I was using 9.11 and it was pretty much unplayable. Now using the dirt 2 hot fix drivers, whilst they they are better the game still randomly stutters at times.

Also are people using hardware audio or this rapture3d? Game is unplayable when i use rapture and it seams to miss out sound at times when i use hardware. If i force dx9 hardware audio works perfect though

5760 x 1200 ultra settings 4x AA (eyefinity)

Average 39.9 FPS
minimum 35 FPS

perfectly playable

i will do a video later

when will the dirt2 game be available through steam, i added the key i got with my card but still no pre load
