Some strikes have an effect on the general public, I can't really see what effect this will have to the man in the street.
Does anyone really care?
I do, they support some of the NHS systems that I support (they provide 2nd line etc)
bad news

Slightly out of context, but why? I'm not trying to be an ass here but it does beg the question, doesn't it? Companies have to comply with a hell of a lot of employment laws, but pay rises if the cost of services go up isn't one of them. Our employers should be helping us by providing a wage which matches the increased costs we face each day. Don't you think so?
Basically, us "little" people are struggling at the moment due to the recession

You know von, that one quote is a endgame answer to almost all debates.Welcome to capitalism.
Welcome to capitalism.
If it bothered me I would seek alternative employment.

It's hardly cowardice to stick by your principles and face possible long term financial hardship why you find another job. If anything it is courageous.I.e. the cowards way out.
Yes I know there is no law with regards to pay rises and meeting inflation. However for those who are good at their job and provide a valuable service (like HP do!), they should not be punished for it. By not even meeting inflation they will be 'punished' by having less disposable money, than they would have done... for what? Doing their job? It's ridiculous.

The things you want to buy have got cheaper as a result of the recession.
Oil crashed from $150 and petrol came down from 130p a litre as a result of the recession.
Air travel hit rock bottom prices this year as a result of the recession.
Mortgage interest rates are at unprecedented lows.
The recession has benefited most people who remained in work.
Yet you think you are struggling? Why?
I'm not struggling as it stands Fox. However down the line I might do. I'm (hopefully) soon to be a first time buyer, if the cost of energy, food, waste, water etc keeps rising as they are, without my wage going up, then I certainly will struggle.
the option to move jobs as well isn't available to the majority of us!
I didn't think you where being brash at all, and your point is both valid and sound.I know you're not trying to be an ass, just like Fox also isn't. But if I have a point to put across, I put it acros, if that means me coming across as brash then so be it.
I don't know, actually my annual review is next week. I got an above inflation pay rise last year, and will be expecting one again this year - if I don't get one I will at least expect/demand a "with inflation" pay rise. As for deserving one? Well I'm good at my job, I have high productivity, and if they don't give me a pay rise I'll tell them I'm looking for a new job.Yes I know there is no law with regards to pay rises and meeting inflation. What about you then platypus? Are you getting a raise this year annually and if not, are you happy about it? Do you feel you deserve one?

a) Work for a company with a set in stone payrise policy
b) Move to a company offerng you a higher wage
c) Change job roles
etc.
You need to be proactive. It's not somebody elses responsibility to sort your standard of living out for you.
