I'm looking to get an inline remote for a 5th gen ipod nano. The only remotes I can see are the apple ones with the headphones built in.

If I didn't want to use Apple's earbuds, are there any options where I can plug in a remote and then plug my own headphones into them?

I'd like to know the answer to this too (although mine would be for a 64gb touch and an iPhone 3GS - I'm assuming I could use the same remote on both?)

Not on the standard one they're not. Not without hacking them apart and soldering on new ones, anyway.

Same here. Just bought a 64gb touch a week ago and the headphones definitely aren't detachable from the remote. My first iPod classic (30gb I think it was) had a proper detachable remote but Apple seem to have stopped doing that now sadly.

Just to bump an old thread - I found an inline remote that looked the same as what a friend of mine had on an older ipod. It's the "Radio Remote" that apple sell. Asking in the shop if it'd be compatible with a 5g nano, everyone said "Yes, it'll work perfectly."

Well, of course, it doesn't. Plug it into the nano 5g and you get an "accessory not supported" message. I guess it's because the remote has a radio built in, but the 5g already has a radio. Which is a shame, because I don't care about the radio, I just want a remote with headphones that are comfortable.

Every time I go near Apple products, I get burned by design and/or staff stupidity/ignorance. Looks like this time is no different :(

Have a look at THIS.

That's for the iPhone it seems.

Looks promising. Will try and find somewhere that sells it.
