HTC Hero, coming July on Orange and T-Mobile, makes me want!

im running 2.9 with everything just how i want it, also apps on sd card too.

what is the best way to upgrade to 3.0 without losing everything?

just download and update - it wont wipe your data unless you do a wipe.

do a naindroid backup before doing it though, just incase, and you can roll back should u need.

Why do you root the phones? What do you actually gain from it? Just trying to decide whether I want to root mine or not.

The term 'root' just means you get root access to the phones firmware. I.E become an administrator. (I think...)

When you instal the root software you are able to instal custom ROMs, get comand line access, do backups of current firmware etc.

Someone needs to have a laymans dictionary around for Android. I may start a blog.

Just upgraded to this custom ROM it was a bit of a pain had to follow a number of guides. Anyway, what is the big deal about this ROM from using it so far there is no benefit in speed whatsoever? Maybe I need to give it some time.

if you had the latest HTC generic rom you want notice much difference in terms of speed.

I think there is a general consensus that the custom roms have a more responsive UI but I think its hardly noticeable if in fact its even there. The main benefit of these roms are the little tweaks such as boot sound turned off and differences to the themes.

Stupid question but how do you manually download emails ?? I dont really want the phone to download emails every hour etc but only when I want to when I'm expecting one from someone. Thanks

In your emails settings you can set it to manual, you can only change the settings for each individual account so if you have 3 accounts you will have to change them seperately. Open your email folder and then go menu -> settings

I have it on the manual setting but how do you get it to download ?? On my previous winmo phone you had a send/recieve but there isnt a button for this  Thanks again for your help and I appreciate this must be a really stupid question.
