EA has officially announced the new Medal of Honor game for release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2010.

Simply called "Medal of Honor", the game is set in present-day Afghanistan and focuses on Tier 1 Operators - super army soldiers, in other words - who get involved in situations all around the world.

"The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience," EA said in a press release.

While EALA works to create a "best-in-class" single-player campaign, EA DICE will work on multiplayer.

"When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today's war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war," said Greg Goodrich, executive producer.

"We are honoured to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience."

EA Games' vice president Nick Earl made headlines last month when his internal comments about the project leaked. He said it looked "simply stunning" in a mail to staff.

That's certainly a change from the myriad of World War II shooters. Afghanistan isn't a subject that's covered very much so it will be very interesting to see how it all turns out to be. It looks like there could be a realistic slant to the game, but then again they have said that for pretty much every single MoH out there.

Im supprised nobody has released a "hunt osamda bin laden" game, wonder what the copyrights are on that :D

I have respect for MOH games, simply from the earlier ones like the original and allied assault but they have been going downhill since then. DICE doing the multiplayer sounds good. Although anyone remember that game based in fallujah and lots of angry public complaints, no doubt basing it in a real operations theatre they will pop up again.

Think there will be a 'guard the poppies' and 'protect the heroin shipment' missions?

if not i will avoid due to it lacking realism :p

I heard about this a couple of weeks ago, my first thought was Modern Warfare is turning into the new WW2. Give it a few years I'm sure you will all be demanding your WW2 games back:p.

I was in Normandy a few weeks ago and made a point of visiting Omaha beach and Point-du-hoc. It's no surprised so many were killed in the invasion - the sea is shallow for a mile out and the german machine gunners would have be hard pressed to miss anyone wading in the sea. The game is very true to life.
