Right I could use a new ADSL router with the following features:

4 port gigabit switch
Wireless N
VPN Endpoint/gateway (whatever you call it)

Not sure I'm going to get all 3, can compromise on the wireless and only have g if need be.

Is there anything out there reasonably priced apart from a Draytek?

Hardest part will be getting it with a Gbit switch in it.

Dump £25-30 on a small 8-port Gbit switch and make your Router life far easier perhaps?

In my personal opinion I do not think consumer routers are all that great at switching at Gbit speeds.

I was looking for something similar not long ago. Billion do a couple in their BiPAC series, including the 7800N and the 7402NX. Neither exactly fall into the "reasonably priced" category, but I ended up getting the 7402NX anyway and am very pleased with it so far. There's also the Belkin N1 Vision which is a little cheaper, but there were so many bad reviews for this that I decided against it.

It's the way I'm going to have to go I think, I could use a few more ports anyway but was just trying to avoid another box :p

Zyxel do a vpn version of my existing router but whilst it's been good I want something different. Might give a Draytek a go, setup a couple of 2600s (or 2800s, I forget now) a few years ago to connect up to satellite offices for my folks and they were good little units.

Chucked a zyxel wireless N router into a property the other day. It failed in 10 minutes. Put anopther, identicle, new one in and it would REFUSE to get a carrier detect.

Dumped a Netgear in instead and did away with the zyxel ones. Highly unimpressed.

Draytek are solid devices and what I would chose should I not be using Cisco.

Zyxel seem to have a consistancy problem, ours has been flawless for the last 3 years and for the money it cost (about £40) it was cheap for a wireless router.

A friend of mine runs a broad band buying based competitor to ocuk (see what I did there? :) ) and he's always rated the Zyxels as for the money they had loads of features.

But I fancy a change as it's boring getting effectively the same thing again :)

Will scour the Draytek site to see what they have...

According to the Belkin specification it only supports PPTP and IPSec pass-through. The Billion 7402NX that I mentioned above does have full endpoint functionality though; it's about £150.

Cheers, looks like what I want, are they any good though? :p

Well, as I said above, I'm very happy with mine. Setup was reasonably simple, the UI is nice and clear (there's a mockup you can have a look through on the Billion site), the security options are good, and I've not had any trouble with it whatsoever so far (though admittedly I've only had it a couple of months).

Just been reading about this, seems absolutely perfect for what I want, cheers!

The VPN thing is a little extravagance but thought it'd be handy when away from home in that it's a secure connection whilst using things like hotel wifi. Plus can still use iPlayer and things from abroad :p

Was just going to look for some ui examples as I really hate these things when they have naff interfaces.
