Best 'practical' fun sportscar for 25k or less

Definately an RX-8. Nothing else comes close. Ever.

Apart from 1 extra door (2 halves) some seats and affinity for drinking oil it's not exactly worlds apart from his S2000 is it? :D

I cannot really think of much that will be miles ahead in terms of cornering performance, retain an air of sensibility and come in below 25k. What kind of benchmark are you using for performance and will you be tracking it?

I doubt you are even pushing your S2000 to it's absolute limits on the road so I'm not sure whether you want this for road or track application, primarily anyway!

Would I be right in thinking your main priority is getting something a bit more modern/refined than the S?

e92 m3's are coming down to early 30's now, so wont be long before they are c. £25k.

I would be looking at c2s rather than a c4s from handling point of view. seats in the rear of 997 aren't really suitable for short journeys if you are anywhere near 6ft.

CSL would be more raw the a C2s and more fun IMO, just depends if you can put up with it day to day. much more useful rear seats and boot than 997 too.

If you want track use and practicallity I do not believe there is a better car in the world than a CSL. Ticks all boxes, with bigger ticks than any other car and there are plenty of track adicts running them who can give you all the information and support you need. Some good CSL communities too.

Ah yes, Red Rose, pay more and get the same with some different paint.

Helping him spend all of his imaginary 25k ;) They do allegedly have a horsepower increase over the standard cars.....

Can get a normal Cerbera for considerably less....

Just out of interest, why has nobody mentioned the Vauxhall Monaro as of yet? it's a little out of budget brand new, but I'd guess getting a year old one you'd be paying around that price mark

Because its not a sports car? It's also discontinued so I'm not sure where the new or nearly new ones are going to come from? It is based on the shape of Holden Monaro which was discontinued in circa 2006.

I'd imagine that's why on this forum :p

Must be better things to buy for £25k though than a Vauxhall with a big engine and a 2 generation old design. Especially when you can pick up good Boxsters etc for £20k~.

I could equally throw Mustang into the ring, but I wouldn't want one for £25k as it's not the right budget to buy at.

The Monaro isn't a sports car either.

How is 25k not enough for a mustang? :/

It's more than enough, infact it's too much. You should only look at spending that much if it's an old classic or a Shelby (GT500 etc...).

For a standard V6 or the GT (4.6l V8) £20k is possibly the top end I would want to spend on one.

Mint condition Escos with change left over for parts/servicing/few nice mods??

It may be old but is still a great car to drive and with a few nice mods can easily crack 300+bhp and imo has more road presence than a CSL/C4S
