Suggestions for cars £900-£1500

Golf is a good idea at £3000+, not at this money. He needs to stick to heavy depreciation unloved brands.

You found a good, cheap golf through the mate's rates/friend's network. Are there any other good, cheap golfs out there? They are generally still worth/priced much higher.

What about your experience makes you think that it is a typical purchasing experience?

He said he would go to £2000 for something special. I wouldn't consider a 10 year old 85k Golf 'special' or even worth spending extra money on.

It's not the right price point to be buying a badge snob car.

x is only 9 years old (aug 2000) and y is only 8.5 years old (march 2001)

There are golfs on autotrader for just over 1500

If your prepared to look, you will find..

There are some bargains to be had out there.

Why bother though. Why spend ages looking for some brilliant mythical 8.5 year old Golf for £1.5k when there are hundreds of other cars that are as good as or better than the Golf available for this price range.

And they will not be X or Y plate, and if they are, they will have numerous things wrong with them to explain the bizarely low price.

Why would you sell a perfectly good Golf for 30% less than its worth? Golfs are not cars which are hard to sell. There is only a few reasons why you'd do that, not nearly enough reasons to explain the cheap ones.

Why wont you tell us anything about your M5? I started off as being genuinelly interested in it as well :(

I'm not here to feed your car porn addiction.

One picture, hasn't bothered to take any others, wont show us the interior, has some bizarrely painted grille, photographed randomly abandoned on a pavement, is 700 quid under trade price and at least a grand less than private sale value. I'm sure its lovely.

Any genuine M5 enthusiast who keeps a mint M5 would WANT to share details and chat about it with other enthusiasts. It's what its about. It's pretty sad when it gets like this on here but i can only conclude you don't have an M5 at all. If you do, then, well, what a shame :(

I have an M5 because I like them. I couldn't give 2 hoots what you think.

I regularly chat with other enthusiasts and there are even photo's and specs on some of the real enthusiasts forums..

Unfortunately I have yet to find many real enthusiasts on this forum. It's more like a poor copy of the barry boys where people take great pride in sticking their oar into a conversation that they know little or nothing about. Yourself, iand and janesy b seem to be the prime movers in that field.

Yet you won't even tell us anything about it - yet felt the need to tell us you had one? When I first asked I was genuinelly interested in chatting about what sounded from your description (Before it all got a bit weird) like a really nice example of a great car.

Why do you post here if you don't wish to discuss cars with the other people who post here?

I think its you that knows little or nothing about what he's trying to talk about, certainly these past few days. The fact you got a good deal on a 1.6 Golf doesn't mean the market is flooded with 1.6 Golfs in great nick for 1500 quid. We tend to ignore Janesy these days after his ridiculous Fiesta thread a few weeks back :p

I guess you're right. When it comes to BMW's or M5's Fox knows sod all
